Laura leaves 'em laughing, gasping (Not a very family-values-type speech..very risque: David Korn)

Who knew? First lady Laura Bush took over the podium from her husband at Saturday night's annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner and knocked 'em dead, keeping Washington's most powerful politicos in stitches as she worked the ballroom like a seasoned stand-up comic.

CUT

Although Washington's movers and shakers laughed at Mrs. Bush's performance, some in the press woke up with a Sunday morning hangover and began to criticize her monologue as immodest at best and downright bawdy at worst.

"Laura Bush cracks risque jokes at the White House Correspondents' dinner," sniffed Agence France-Presse. CNN reporter Elaine Quijano, who attended the dinner, also apparently had her sensibilities scarred by some of the first lady's quips.

"In some respects, I think for some folks it was a little shocking because she kind of crossed the line a little bit in some people's minds," she said.

"It was very risque," the Nation's David Korn said yesterday on Fox News. "I was wondering what the social conservatives and James Dobson had to say about all these jokes that were laced with sexual innuendo. Not a very family-values-type speech. I'm not sure I want to explain a lot of those jokes to my 4-year-old."

Eyebrows were raised by the first lady's bit about the president's ranching skills, which Mrs. Bush said her husband lacked because the elite schools he attended, Andover and Yale, "don't have a real strong ranching program."

She then added: "He's learned a lot about ranching since that first year when he tried to milk the horse. What's worse, it was a male horse."

The crowd howled. The joke, a female Associated Press reporter said, "had women giggling in the bathroom."

The Bush Administration officials could easily guess how these remarks would play with a portion of its base. They apparently did not care, for their goal was to reach out to the so-called center.

"These remarks" played well with everyone but the "Panties in a bunch for Jesus"* crowd, led by the insufferable Lou Sheldon. (*Attribution of the moniker to Diddle E. Squat)

His job is sitting around, waiting to be offended so he can fire off blast emails to arouse with righteous anger those who sit around waiting for Lou's emails.

Some "Christians" go out of their way to confirm that believers are humorless slugs.

The point is, people can have different opinions on this and still be good conservatives, etc....I just get sick of the bashing by a small group who think they own the board.

You are correct regarding having a difference of opinion and still be good conservatives. I firmly believe that.

However, because I happened to enjoy the First Lady's performance not only was my conservativeness questioned, but so was my morality, and parenting abilities....I call that bashing, and it was done to me by one of those you are calling a victim of bashing.

Please, your claims of victimhood claim is unbecoming.

You were attacked. And by the usual suspects. Please know that you are not the first...nor will you probably be the last. It is one thing for a few people who are not in a small group to disagree with you but quite another for the small group to show up and attack you over and over again. Please know that there are those of us who, even though we may not agree with you on everything, everytime, will not attack you over and over for saying something we disagree with. And there are many more of us.

You have been posting this same crap for about six months now.

One is left to conclude that you are STILL bitter about being blackballed from some sorority and are taking it out on people here.

Many children probably hear rougher humor on a cable channel than what Laura Bush told. However, sexual and scatological humor is antithetical to most conservative Christians. The Bushes and their political advisers know that, yet Laura Bush made the remarks.

If there is anybody being unrealistic, it is those who regard the First Lady's remarks as being some sort of "from the heart" speech. Remember Franklin Roosevelt's adage that nothing in politics happens by accident.

No doubt! America is getting dumber so fast I think we should have a countdown clock to Zero Intelligence in Times Square. When Jay Leno can no longer find anyone who knows the difference between a bull and a cow we'll be there. We must be close with so many idjits that can't see the difference between Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush.

I say we just start exchanging funny Aggie jokes if this keeps coming up over and over again.

Three Aggies were in a car going to Disney World and they saw a sign saying 'Disney World Left,' so they turned around and went home...

Well.. I guess I fall into the unaware category. But then, if it is an unwritten rule, then I'm not worried about it either.

It is ridiculous and unmerited that someone would tell another poster to not voice their opinion, PERIOD. The idea thet the President is harmed by twiggs' comments is laughable.

The one's that turned this thread into what it has become are the ones that ATTACKED twiggs and others BEFORE the thread digressed.

Thats the difference here. Those women you mentioned are nothing more than and known for being trollops when compared to Mrs. Bush.

I suggest you reread my post, because I have defended Mrs. Bush, not attacked her. I replied to that quote, I did not make it.

I've no idea why you think I was referring to you. Check and you'll verify that my post #418 was indeed addressed to the self-righteous person who made the crass remark, not to you.

Sheeeesh, people are wound tighter 'n paint on a lamppost around here.

You aren't aware that it is Laura Bush's influence that is credited for some of the billions of dollars thrown down the toilet of our "education" and "arts" establishments?

Oh, now we're getting to it; you disagree with some of her advice to Bush, so you're taking this opportunity to trash her!

Good to know.

I see agendas EVERYWHERE!!!

Yeah. I noticed she really had to twist a lot of GOP arms. Denny Hastert even said his motto is "what would Laura want" before he plans House strategy.

She's a real mover up there on Capitol Hill, that Laura Bush is. Yep. She sure is.
