What do you know about Hal Lindsey?
Hal Lindsey ^

I have been directed to read Hal Lindsey about the choice of Cardinal Ratzinger and future prophecy.
He appears to be a commentator, but I am getting a funky vibe.
Does anyone know anything about this guy and his prophecies?

Paul's example was to make it clear that people must act from the heart, not by birth, correct, but it has absolutely zero to do with Isrtael supplanting the Church.
You can try until you are blue in the face, but Jeremiah was quite clear.

As far as those 'left behind,' I think Hal Lindsey says that the Holy Spirit will be taken out of the world during the great tribulation, and that the only way to be saved will be to die.
That's not true. There are many that believe there will be more come to Christ during the Tribulation than before. It is not needed to die to be saved during the Trib. The rules are the same then as now, Salvation is through faith in Christ as stated in Eph 2:8-9... 8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faithand this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God 9not by works, so that no one can boast.

(Rom 11:5 KJV) Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. This scripture pretty much sums up all your other Romans scriptures. The key word is "remnant". Paul was saying God had not totally rejected Israel. Just as he was saved, so are some other Israelites saved. However, not ALL Israel...not the country of Israel.

"One thing is certain: For the first time man now has the ability to track smaller asteroids that could wreak enormous destruction on this planet. This is bringing increasing anxiety about threats from the heavens not known before. This is exactly what Jesus predicted would happen in the last days."
Yes, Hal, I can't sleep for worrying about asteroids hitting the earth, maybe, at some point down the road.

but it has absolutely zero to do with Isrtael supplanting the Church. You've said this a couple times. However, this is my argument. Israel doesn't supplant the church. The church is the fulfillment of the Israel prophecies, not the other way around.

Read Zechariah, Chapters 12-14. That is not the church being described. It is the nation of Israel.

Late Great Planet Earth. He's cool but apparently not a true prophet. He's definitely a conservative, though.

Is there a difference between the nation of Israel and the church? Most Christians have made too much of the disconnect of their Jewish heritage instead of realizing that we are surrogate Jews. Christianity is the fulfilled Jewish church/ the fulfilled Israel.

Hal Lindsey tends to get his eschatology off the front page of newspaper. Probably all of his books have been rendered obsolete by events subsequent to their writing. He belongs to the dispensational/left behind school of end times theology, ( and in fact popularized it before LaHaye). IMHO his interpretive methodology and the conceptual framework he uses to think, (using that term loosely), and write about end times are woefully flawed. I wouldn't believe anything he said or wrote without carefully and prayerfully comparing it to scripture and to the views of real scholars.

Not all Jews are saved. They cannot be, as they have not accepted the Savior.
To: mnehrling
Yes there is a difference. I believe that Israel is still the center of all end times prophecy. I don't believe the church replaced Israel at all. That said, Jewish people do need to believe in Jesus Christ for salvation just like Gentiles. If you Google "replacement theology," you will find any number of articles on the subject.

I was responding to this question you had asked.
Is there a difference between the nation of Israel and the church?
Yes, there is a difference.
To: Cecily
Jewish people do need to believe in Jesus Christ Yes, they do. They are sinners, so are barred from Heaven unless they have a Savior.
