GULFPORT - In an emotional tribute at a memorial Mass, Terri Schiavo was praised Tuesday night as a remarkable woman, an inspiration to others and someone whose name will become a rallying cry to those who feel her death was an injustice.
''I am sorry, though, that pure love alone was not enough to keep you from harm,'' Schiavo's sister, Suzanne Vitadamo, told a crowd of more than 800 that overflowed and spilled outside the sanctuary of a St. Petersburg church Tuesday night.
''You are telling us not to be sad,'' Vitadamo said in a message to her sister, ``but to be happy because you are now free. You are a remarkable woman. Your smile brought us great joy. You have shown the world what perseverance and determination are all about.
''I miss you,'' Vitadamo said. ``We will forever be grateful to you.''

The Schindler family has class and morals. They fought the good fight, but God has other plans for Terri. May God bless and protect her family, and heal them in their hour of need.

Whereas the rule of law is concerned, I agree that Jeb did the right thing, and the FL legislature screwed up. I do think it's a sad day for the rule of law when indeed a probate judge has the ultimate word over life or death regardless of what some may consider contentious medical opinions.

He did not say that starving Schiavo was the proper thing. You simply got pissed off because someone made an observation that is anathema to your mindset which then precipitated your visceral statement..
I would not try and blame the Schlinders. They fought for 15 years, surely some time they did the right thing. However, they never won any round did they?
When the law chooses to circumvent the law and pick and choose which laws to honor and ignore others - you get a Schaivo case.
What about the laws on the books that no one can remove a feeding tube? What about ignoring a federal subpoena, what about ignoring the law calling for a re-review of the case. The Schlinders had nothing to do with all of that.
Like I have said, you will not get a legal fight where the legal system ignores a federal subpoena, ignores a law passed to re-review the case, thumbs its nose at a state governor's efforts to take custody, and insults the President and the legislature unless there is a mighty powerful force pushing it. It would not be merely one man trying to remove the feeding tube of a wife.
Mark my words, this is not the end of this battle and it makes one ponder as to the purpose.
Well, since you asked---
First, it's not true that she had the same level of consciousness as a tree. She'd be closer, perhaps, to a 2 year old child (though it's impossible to know, from the outside, what she was experiencing on the inside.) There were looks, laughs, cries; she could track an object with her eyes. She could express emotional responses with her face: she lit up when she heard her mother's voice; she made a "lemon-face" when her father kissed her with his brushy moustache. She smiled and moved her hands when she heard her favorite music. And when a lawyer beseeched her to say, "I want to live," she said "AAAaaahhhhhh Waaaaaaahhh."
Yes. "AAaaahhhh Waaaaaahh." I felt like that the day she died.
Second, she apparently had an amazing will to live. She survived three different attempts to kill her when her food and water were cut off by her husband: in 2003, it was for 6 days. And the last time, she struggled on for 13 days before she died.
"Biologically tenacious," they call it.
I'm going to get me a T-shirt that says "biologically tenacious."

He did not state she should be starved. That was a logical (not visceral) conclusion drawn from what he did say. Read his post...Terri could not inspire, and did not have the capacity for heroism...he stated those things quite explicitly. He further implied that anyone who had any type of reaction to an innocent woman being starved to death surprised him. If that does not elicit a visceral response from you, I'll pray for your soul. Moreover, he likened her to a tree, making further explicit statements from him unecessary for me to make (rational) conclusions regarding his views on the status of Terri's personhood and the utility of other persons in her condition (as undetermined as that remained until the time of her death).
I would bet that the ones speaking up for not murdering U.S. citizens are also the same ones that honor our soldiers. After all, what are the soldiers fighting for?
I thought it was for our freedom and constitutional rights and for our safety. Why should we be quiet when that safety at home is being compromised by any that wish others dead?
Most of Terri's supporter support the military. The only troop bashing I've seen on the Terri threads came from those supporting Terri's murder. So get off your soap box.
Terri is dead. Time to move on with life and not dwell and dishonor the dead.
Without a PET scan or an fMRI, your supposition that she had no consciousness is purely speculative. A CT scan can't show what was needed to be looked at.

For some reason there have been plenty of people on the side of killing Terri who have been bashing our troops. Go figure! The ones who should put down the crackpipe are the ones who bashed the military, and chose a Terri thread as the place to do it.
I was responding to the accusation that Terri's supporters don't support the military. If you really think bringing the subject up means somebody is smoking crack, direct your accusations accordingly. If that's what you really think. If this was just another opportunity to insult a Terri supporter, try again.
Oh, excuse me. Only can whine if you are in the WFPPF I guess.
