Sandy Berger Pleads Guilty to Destroying Classified Document
Washington Post ^ | April 2, 2005 | Carol D. Leonnig

Posted on 04/02/2005 8:00:41 AM PST by MaximusRules

The deal's terms make clear that Berger spoke falsely last summer in public claims that in 2003 he twice inadvertently walked off with copies of a classified document during visits to the National Archives, then later lost them.

He described the episode last summer as "an honest mistake...."

The terms of Berger's agreement required him to acknowledge to the Justice Department the circumstances of the episode. Rather than misplacing or unintentionally throwing away three of the five copies he took from the archives, as the former national security adviser earlier maintained, he shredded them with a pair of scissors late one evening at the downtown offices of his international consulting business.

The document, written by former National Security Council terrorism expert Richard A. Clarke, was an "after-action review" prepared in early 2000 detailing the administration's actions to thwart terrorist attacks during the millennium celebration. It contained considerable discussion about the administration's awareness of the rising threat of attacks on U.S. soil.

Will the media show any outrage about Berger's willingness to break the law to make sure people did not see any evidence that was damaging to the Clinton terrorism policy?

NO............that's where WE come in.

That's why I sent the link in post #59 to my email list and the media. We need to write letters to editors as well.

We must not let Sandy Burglary & the Clinton machine get away with yet another cover-up.

Thanks for that link:

Because there were some facts out there that were so damning, Sandy Berger was willing to break the law to make sure the public never saw them.

They must indeed have been "damning".

"he isnt getting his security clearance back after this....just to correct you.... "

Sorry to disagree with you but Sandy Berger is part of the ruling class and will probably be a trusted member of the next Democrat administration. Whoever that may be

Rush said yesterday that the missing docs had hand written margin notes from the staffers & other officials who had read them. So that input is now lost.

That Berger would risk getting caught for this crime indicates the seriousness of what they contained!

I am outraged that he only got a 'slap on the wrist'.
I just hope whatever 'deal' was cut garnered enough evidence to be useful in 2008 should another Clinton seek to be POTUS!

Come on now folks!

Just because he stuffed classified documents from the U.S. National Archives down his pants, shredded them, and then lied about it, doesn't mean we should treat the guy like some kinf of CRIMIN.... oh..right..

... um, nevermind.

Heyo

that is the initial penalty.

But he won't get through another investigation without this being pardoned on his record. It won't come from W I am almost certain.

DSS will choke on it when the next renewal investigation comes up.

He will need to be in a position that requires the clearance anyway to get one.

There are many many things that need to be changed for him.

NSA's or anything else for that matter need to be approved, and that wont happen with a GOP controlled Senate, which it will be.

It wont happen. I keep telling you guys this, but none of you have security clearances in the first place. There is a process that needs to occur before he can get another one.

Sure he will! He has already proven that he's not afraid to get down and do a little dirty work... get his hands dirty, and take care of the criminal activity that would be needed to sustain a Dem administration and keep the public in the dark. Of course he'll end up back in good graces. If they don't give him back his clearance, then who will shred the documents that needed to be shredded to keep the Dems from being called to account? Berglar has "made his bones" so to speak. They need guys like him.

The dirty scum bag did what would have been 20 to 50 years for a military person. There are people in jail for just leaving the documents out of the safe. I just do not understand how we are held to the law when these Washington scum bags get away with murder.

I really liked the part where ole Sandy takes the scissors and cuts up two of the documents as an "honest mistake."

"But would the cell phone company have those records?? even the digitized ones??? Maybe just the record that a call was made??"

Depending upon how his phone pic emails were routed over the web, some public or private server out "there" somewhere could easily have copies...needing only Berger's cell phone number to narrow down a quick search of a hard drive to find...a FReeper research project if ever there was one.

No National Security Adviser of EITHER party would EVER be put in a prison cell.

Hmm, that didn't stop them from putting Attorney General John Mitchell in prison, and I'd suspect that he knew some interesting things, too. Who said they'd have to put SanBurgler in a regular prison cell? They could stuff him in the same place where they have Pollard and Ames.

I do see one possible upside to this plea deal, he's supposed to "cooperate" with the Feds to keep the deal, and even if you're right about them not putting him in prison, they can still tweak with his fine. I suspect that he's going to give some information that could be used if Hillary ever does decide to make a serious run at the Presidency. SanBurgler is no longer a threat to this nation, but she is, and like a low level drug bust, its better to get info on the higher-ups.

It appears from what has been made public, that there is an ongoing and very serious Berglergate investigation. Why else would the feds give him a lightened sentence for "cooperating" ...
