Do you want to make a change and see some justice? Congressman Tom DeLay said the House Judiciary Committee will be investigating Terri's case and making recommendations to the full house about any reforms that they believe are necessary in this debacle over Terri's life and death.

This thread is to brainstorm, and to report what contacts we have made and the results. Below is a link to the committee members.

Anyone who wants to help organize a ping list- SPEAK UP. We need someone to make a list of objectives and contacts.

This thread is for activism. If you are not interested in that - please move to a different thread. I am done with the flame wars.

This is for those who want action and want a change.

This is what we are fighting.

We need to contact Chaney and tell him how we feel. They seem to be in cover up mode.

There's a bug in the email program for DeLay. I imagine it is the same for the other email programs. It doesn't recognize email addresses with more than one period. I was able to use my underlying email address which doesn't have a period in the name. I told them about it. They said they would have it fixed in a few days.

For instance xxx.xxxxxx@xxx.com isn't accepted, but
xxxxxxxx@xxx.com would be accepted.

I like that post too.

It's a little different take on the "due process" angle. His arguments certainly make sense, but evidently that doesn't always matter. I think it needs to be discussed with other constitutional attorneys and get their opinion on the arguments presented.

I did a little research. I think this is the same guy. He has a book out on "Defending the Declaration" by Gary Amos

Here's the final vote on the compromised version of Terri's bill in the house:

The Senate used a voice vote:

Here's the co-sponsors that were supporting Terri's bill on one of the earlier versions:

Will do all I can, but you can bet the farm, NOTHING will be done. Not by the Senate for SURE. In the house there is a possibility but Delay is only one man and soon his voice will be lost in the din that has been launched by every leftist organization in the nation and backed up by the MSM and RINOS.

The only hope is for legislation to make sure this type of killing never happens again........that is until some friggin Judge decides the law is unconstitutional. It never ends.......

Just found my representative -- Price (NC)

He voted against Terri.

I want to know what they did before I call their office. I called his office before the vote and they were noncommittal

I've been doing research on when food and water became a life-prolonging procedure and who was Governor at the time.

It looks like 1999 is correct and that Governor Bush signed it into law.

End-of-life Care:
06/11/1999 Approved by Governor; Chapter No. 99-331

The definition change for what is a life-prolonging procedure was introduced by the Committee on Health, Aging and Long-Term Care and Senator Klein

Jeb Bush was elected in Nov. 1998 and reelected in Nov. 2002. So, he should have been Governor on 6/11/1999 when the changes were put into effect.

This is the way it read prior to 1999 changes:

1998:

9) "Life-prolonging procedure" means any medical procedure, treatment, or intervention which:
(a) Utilizes mechanical or other artificial means to sustain, restore, or supplant a spontaneous vital function; and
(b) When applied to a patient in a terminal condition, serves only to prolong the process of dying.

The term "life-prolonging procedure" does not include the administration of medication or performance of medical procedure, when such medication or procedure is deemed necessary to provide comfort care or to alleviate pain.

1999 through 2004: (2005 not listed yet)
(10) "Life-prolonging procedure" means any medical procedure, treatment, or intervention, including artificially provided sustenance and hydration, which sustains, restores, or supplants a spontaneous vital function. The term does not include the administration of medication or performance of medical procedure, when such medication or procedure is deemed necessary to provide comfort care or to alleviate pain.

The definitions are in chapter 765 of the Florida Statutes, specifically:
PART I
GENERAL PROVISIONS
765.101 Definitions.

I can not think of any other reason for the change in this law, except to make it easier to eliminate people like Terri. Jeb Bush allowed this change by signing it into law. He must now take political responsibility for signing this law.

ACTION NEEDED

PING FOR JUDICIAL LIST

Senator Bill Frist
509 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510
202-224-3344
202-228-1264 (fax)
Frist Says Courts in Schiavo Case Acted Fairly

See this post which details the laws that Greer broke so he could starve Terri to death:

LIST OF OFFENSES BY JUDGE GREER HERE

PLEASE SEE THIS POST FOR A FORMAL COMPLAINT FILED AGAINST GREER

I believe we have a fair and independent judiciary today," said Frist, "I respect that."

Thanks for the ping Phil Dragoo! Here is what I did: Thanks Phil- I called and spoke with a nice gal there, I told that I disagree with Senator Frist's statement and want to see Judge Greer brought to Justice for breaking the laws and determining which las to enforce in the Terri case. I told her I hardly think that is fair. Independent-YES, but fair -no. I told her the people-thru their federal reps spoke and Judge Greer laughed. The lady I spoke with told me there are many people who agree with me.

Let's all call and make our voices heard!

Please let me know-by freepmail if you would like to be added or taken off this list. Also if I have you on the list twice. Thanks!
