Pinellas Park police Lt. Kevin Riley, standing upper right, prepares to arrest members of the Keys family as they were attempting to bring Terri Schiavo water Wednesday morning, March 23, 2005 outside the Woodside Hospice in Pinellas Park, Fla. The Keys family, of Burnet, Tex., kneeling, from left, Josie, 14, Gabriel, 10, Chris, the children's father, and Cameron 12, were all taken into custody. Galen Keys, upper left, the children's mother looks on, but was not arrested. The mother insists it was the children's idea: "I am proud of them," said the boys' mother Geilen Keys from Texas, who was not arrested. "They are very mature and they said 'we want to go and offer some water to Terri'."
Pinellas Park police Lt. Kevin Riley, second from left, handcuffs 14-year-old Josie Keys, left, while Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies place her father Chris in the back of a van after arresting members of the family for trespassing Wednesday morning March 23, 2005 outside the Woodside Hospice in Pinellas Park, Fla. The family members were attempting to bring Terri Schiavo a cup of water.
Gabriel Keys (foreground) is arrested by police officers for trespassing in Pinellas Park, Florida, March 23, 2005. The young protester attempted to take a glass of water into the Woodside Hospice for the brain-damaged Terri Schiavo. A federal judge rejected a request from the parents of Schiavo to order her feeding tube reinserted, dealing a blow to attempts by the U.S. Congress and the White House to prolong her life.
Maybe if you were down there speaking out, they wouldn't have had to do it.
The cowards are the ones hiding behind keyboards and badges criticizing or arresting those who want to do something, anything to give Terri a simple drink of water.
The most ironic sight at Woodside Hospice is of the beautiful refreshing-looking fountain about twenty feet from the front door. It springs up beautifully about 3 feet into the air.
But the ghouls won't give someone who has had nothing for five days even one drop.
What an honor.
Yep, PRO-ABORTION = KILL TERRI
Right on, brother. These people expressed their true believes in the most sincere way they knew how. We should be awed.
They'll release the parent on bail, but the kids are likely going to a shelter for the time being.
The State of Florida doesn't look kindly on parents who encourage children to break the law.
For some reason I broke into tears when I saw these pictures. What have we come to?
Your comments made me smile tho. You are on target.
Once you get past the pettiness and smokescreen of the mainstream media to make every incident smaller than life -- and every act of caring an opportunity for ridicule and derision, one has to feel quite good that so many are sharing the passion of Terri Schindler. Truly, it is more inspiring than any movie. This is the real thing folks -- and not just some phony Hollywood production that these liberals get all hot and bothered about, not being able to tell the real from the phony, inevitably taking the phony for the real. You can't convince everybody -- but you have to know the difference for oneself. And that's what really matters. That's how the world changes -- and not all that phony posturing to seem like decent human beings, while trampling over everybody else.
spring break
It's apparent that you haven't a clue. Keep looking, maybe you'll find it one day.
Oh, puh-lease.
Your saying that islamic suicide bombers are morally equivalent to Christian children bringing a dehydrated woman a cup of water!!? I'm stunned at the level of your moral relativism.
Looks like the kids should be in school. In Texas.
I dont know if I would put my children in that position, but I give them all of the credit in the world for standing up for what they believe.
What DA is going to want to press charges against children attempting to give water to a dying woman and what jury would convict? They will be cited and released. Charges will be dropped.
I was just imaging a scenario where the overhead sprinklers could miraculously turn on, and Terri could stick out her tongue for water.
I simply cannot imagine that Terri, even if she said she wanted to die, would have ever said it to mean that she wanted to be starved and dehydrated to death. Most people whom I know who have living wills mean that they wish for machines to be turned off, not food and water being denied.
I'm proud of them, too. It's never too soon to teach young children the inestimable value of every human life.
I must be on a different planet...most FReepers are completely comitted to keepin gtheir children SAFE. I know I am. There is NO WAY IN HELL I'd use my son in this manner, NONE. Any parent who does is IMHO an abuser.
Kids are NOT there to be props in anyone's protest drama. And saying that "The kids WANT to do it" is patent BS. These same parents wouldn't DREAM of letting the kids do this if this was a cause they disagreed with.
These kids were placed there and put up to this by their nutjob parents. America didn't put them there, not society, not the judges, nobody except parents so carried away on emotion that they are failing to protect their own children.
It is the parents, and all those egging them on, who are responsible for those shackles. No one else. And it is unforgiveable.
"That they don't know EXACTLY what they're doing and want to do it?"
They're children, that's how.
Or can I use the same argument you use when 12 year olds are having sex? How do you know they don't know EXACTLY what they're doing and want to do it?
Gotcha.
