Rating the radio talk show hosts

Posted on 03/03/2005 1:31:07 PM PST by EveningStar

Since I retired several months ago, I've had plenty of time to listen to talk radio and I've been able to come up with my own factors for rating some of the hosts.

It is this: Who provides depth and insight and who doesn't?

To me, those who provide depth and insight include: Rush Limbaugh Dennis Prager Michael Medved Larry Elder

Those who fall into the "No **** Sherlock / Captain Obvious to the Rescue" category include: Laura Ingraham Sean Hannity

That's my opinion. What's yours?

Well I have to agree with the Sean Hannity assessment. Haven't listened to Rush since before the hearing problem. On TV, Brit Hume is my favorite.

Michael Medved is at the top. Michael Savage is my #2-----he quite often goes off his rocker, but he's the only conservative radio host that sounds truly independent to me. Laura Ingraham is hot, but sounds too much like a White House spokesperson-----plus, I would never trust anybody that plugs Cortislim.

El Rushbo will always be #1. After him, Neil Boortz, out of Atlanta. Libertarian, outrageous, funny as he**!

Hannity - on the right side but completely derivative and shallow......

An insufferable egomaniac.

Jim Quinn # 1.

I've grown tired of Quinn. He preaches too much. He's terrible on the phone and he reads too many articles. Rose never did impress me.

Boston gal here. Howie Carr is the man!

Make that 2 votes for Howie Carr.

I'm a big fan of Rush and Laura, too.

The thing that irritates me about Rush is his refusal to go head to head with the opposition. You never hear Rush take on an opponent who can match up with him. When he posed the "10 Questions" to Richard Clarke after his book came out and his appearance on '60 Minutes', I kept wondering why he didn't have Clarke on his show so he could ask those questions to him directly.

To me, Rush doesn't take nearly enough phone calls, and the ones he does take always seem to agree with him totally. I'd just like to hear some debate on the Limbaugh show.

Neal Boortz is my favorite. Whether or not you agree with his political viewpoints, you have to admit, it's a pretty entertaining show, and I love how he nails his opponents to the wall. I've heard Boortz debate Hannity on drug legalization, and believe me, Boortz pratically ate him for lunch.

Aside from Rush, I listen to local hosts or lesser known national hosts. Ironically, I used to listen to Hannity, even before he went national on the radio, or had a TV show.

Shallow. I agree. But let's face it...many Americans are shallow when it comes to politics. I think Sean Hannity is good for bringing them to Talk Radio and also attracts younger people. In the long run, that's positive. Because of that (even though I don't personally listen to him or Laura Ingraham... I support them both)

Rush first by several lengths, then Laura Ingraham and Hannity neck and neck for second.

Savage when I'm in the mood for some insanity.
