Since I retired several months ago, I've had plenty of time to listen to talk radio and I've been able to come up with my own factors for rating some of the hosts.
It is this: Who provides depth and insight and who doesn't?
To me, those who provide depth and insight include: Rush Limbaugh Dennis Prager Michael Medved Larry Elder
Those who fall into the "No **** Sherlock / Captain Obvious to the Rescue" category include: Laura Ingraham Sean Hannity
That's my opinion. What's yours?
>>
Icon - Limbaugh
Pumping up the base - Hannity
Political insight - Hewitt
History - Medved
Force for good - Prager
In the leftists' faces - Ingraham
Logic in shutting down the enemy - Rantel
Skewing their arguments - Elder
<<
Very well put. I totally agree.
Love Laura Ingraham and have missed her show since moving to a smaller town. I found her very funny.
Geeez, I love Laura's show; it gets me going in the morning.
But, unlike you all, I often find Lee's comments to be a step ahead of Laura, and, because she sees the truth/humor in them, she repeats them w/out giving credit to Lee.
I would like to hear more from Lee.
>> Or need to start building their personal library. You know he's got a book out, don't you? <<
Yes, it's in my library! Personally, my favorite authors are Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams.
>> I forgot about Ken Hamblin! I remember him from his days doing late nights at KOA in Denver many moons ago!
I've never gotten to hear his radio show, but I have both of his books.
Years and years ago, before I really knew him, I never imagined he was a black Conservative. Even as a young kid, I was drawn to his intelligent deep thinking. I was glad KOA had his show on the overnight hours, when I could hear him.
And you were reminded today that his book is for sale?
Youll have to explain the Jacuzzi salesman bit. I dont get it.
Thanks for all the links!
Looks like I finally found someone more cynical than me. Not sure that's a good thing.
You bet- it's kind of cool, listening on the PC while FReeping. Overloads my brain, however.
You can listen to Laura I. on the internet out of a station in Dallas, if she's not on a station in your area.

Just for the record
I also listened to Rush interview Mark Levin
and Mark Levin definitely did use that expression.
I remembered being quite startled to hear Levin say that
and I thought to myself, at the time,
"isn't that Savage's expression?"
I can't speak with authority on that at all. I will say that Savage's comments about Levin in general were spot on (an unfunny, alienating presence).
"Just for the record" Ninth Circuit Court of Schlemiels is an old line used for decades by law students. I'm not familiar with Ninth Jerkit Court of Schlemiels, but sounds like something Weiner Nation would say. My callers tell me he also claims to be rated #1 in New York, when, in fact, he's not -- I am. I was alerted that you were back, as you jump on these threads to promote your Weiner friend. But at least have the integrity to tell the truth. For those who care, here's the entire transcript of the interview Weiner and his admirers have been lying about -- I seriously doubt anything in it sounds remotely like his ramblings. http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_021605/content/eib_interview.member.html
I think the phrase in question is not 'Ninth Circuit Court of Schlemiels,' but rather 'Ninth Jerk-it Court of Schlemiels.' The latter has definitely been used by Savage for a while, though I can't say he originated it. I also don't know what Levin did or didn't say on the matter, and have said so consistently.
I am not 'back,' I never left FR. I am not Mike Savage's friend - I have never met the man. I don't know what you mean by that, sorry. I do enjoy his radio program, though.
I explictly said that I don't know what Levin did or didn't say. All I said was that regardless, I share Mike Savage's opinion of Levin as basically an unfunny and unentertaining radio presence. It's just a matter of taste and opinion.
I don't know about the transcript, and I can't check it as I don't have a password. I explicitly said in an earlier post that I didn't know what Levin said - the only thing I endorsed was that I don'r care for his humor, voice, or radio presence.
I don't doubt Mark Levin's status as a genuine warrior for the cause, though. I heard him speak with G Gordon Liddy a short while back and look forward to buying and enjoying his book. I applaud his efforts.
I just am not a fan of his program or his radio appearances. I find them grating, unfunny, and fairly witless.
I AM Mark Levin.
Two thumbs up for Jerry Doyle. He not only answers email from listeners occasionally, he's a lurker on FreeRepublic. I expect big things from him in the future.
