Rating the radio talk show hosts
Posted on 03/03/2005 1:31:07 PM PST by EveningStar
Since I retired several months ago, I've had plenty of time to listen to talk radio and I've been able to come up with my own factors for rating some of the hosts.
It is this: Who provides depth and insight and who doesn't?
To me, those who provide depth and insight include: Rush Limbaugh Dennis Prager Michael Medved Larry Elder
Those who fall into the "No **** Sherlock / Captain Obvious to the Rescue" category include: Laura Ingraham Sean Hannity
That's my opinion. What's yours?
TOPICS: Constitution/Conservatism; Culture/Society; Philosophy; Your Opinion/Questions
KEYWORDS: besttalkshowhost; gr8american; hewittnumberone; inmybook; savage; talkradio; talkshowhosts

Yep, really here in the beautiful bedroom of Upland. The mountains just above us are beautifully white with snow. Yeah, I know Upland, but with this wetness we getting as of late, watch it when the summer comes. Boy how I remember the Hills burning few years back...
I look at the Hills/Mountains and the greener they are, the more anxious I get when the fire season kicks in.
I do not want to be a firefighter when the fit hits the shan, God forbid!
Did you review your home insurance policy?

I obviously meant bedroom community, not bedroom.
We are in no fire danger where I am.

Beck - annoying That's the understatement of the year! Beck is incredibly ANNOYING (and BOOOOOOORING) with his stale game show shtick that he does over and over and over again. Get a clue, Glenn Beck. You are just NOT funny!

Mike Gallagher is great with social commentary! I don't mind Mike at all, in fact, I enjoy his show.

Limbaugh is king. He has no competition. Exactly. He's been #1 for years and nobody else comes close.

#1: Michael Medved: Simply indefatigable when it comes to debate. Utterly fearless when it comes to taking on the biggest bullies the left can muster. The king of making lefties look VERY bad on the public airwaves
#2: Bob Grant: Crochety? yes. Wrong on some issues? yes. Past his prime? sure. But still great and has some of the best callers in radio.
#3: Hugh Hewitt: Just started listening to Hugh. He has some great regular guests and is a great booster of the blogosphere. Good show. Occassionally insufferable when he starts talking about Ohio sports, though.
#4: Laura Ingram: I almost always get a chuckle out of her show somewhere along the way. great at ridiculing dopey leftists and gets it on most issues.
#5: Glenn Beck: Glenn is like fingernails on a chalkboard 80% of the time. Fortunately, the other 20% is pure gold and hysterically funny. His "guests" are a hoot!

I like them all. They all contribute. I enjoy Laura (on my drive to work), Rush (lunchbreak) and can barely hear Savage (weak station) on my ride home, so I usually tune to Hannity.

One of my criteria for a radio commentator is that they have a voice that I can comfortably listen to. Many of the current broadcasters remind me of running your finger nails up a blackboard.
Most of my radio listening is on WABC in NY, but only Rush 12-3, and Laura Ingraham 8-10. Sometimes I might listen to Drudge on Sunday Night.
I cannot listen to Sean Hannity because about half of his air time is given to air head Liberals, who Sean calls his good friends!

'I thought Rush's move from KDKA to WPGB was going to make the earth move and tank KDKA. Latest trends released today shows KDKA down half a share from 9.8 to 9.3 while WPGB rose from 4.8 to 6.3. And WPGb has a who's who of conservative talkers. What gives
To: EveningStar
They fill different needs.
So, instead of being a captain obvious myself, I will merely make the point that Michael Medved is by far & away the BEST I have heard at debating liberals. He doesn't allow them to stray from the point & always ties them up in the knots that they themselves made. Excellent.
Rush is king.

"Mike Gallagher is great with social commentary! I don't mind Mike at all, in fact, I enjoy his show."
He is passable but he can be a jerk. About 5-6 years ago he was going on about GPS systems. He kept insisting that consumer units maintains a 2-way communication with the "satellite" and reported the user's location.
A listener called (not me) and pointed out his error. He went ballistic and called the fellow (and older gent based on his voice, and trained in electronics to boot) a liar. He stated a number of times that, "You are a liar, you are just a liar!"
I lost all respect for him that day.

I agree with you about Savage but that's what I like about him.He will take anyone to task if he thinks they're wrong no matter what party they are from.I can't listen to the others because they sound like infomercials for the administration. They are for the republican party first and unwilling to be critical of the party when it forgets its conservative values.I have trouble with that since I'm a conservative who votes republican and I believe in criticizing the party on issues like the border.
