Canada Says U.S. Must Consult Before Missile Launch
Reuters via Yahoo! News ^

Posted on 02/25/2005 12:29:59 PM PST by doublehelix

> Canada, which this week refused to join a U.S. missile system designed to protect North America, nevertheless insisted on Friday that Washington must consult it before firing rockets into Canadian airspace.

"This is our space, our airspace. We're a sovereign nation and you don't intrude on a sovereign nation's airspace without seeking permission," Prime Minister Paul Martin told reporters. <

So, we have to ask permission to shoot down a warhead headed our way? Right, we'll get on that, Mr. we-spend-less-than-half-of-the-NATO-average-on-defense.

Also in the article was a quote by the Conservative Party of Canada:

> The opposition Conservatives mocked Martin's comments, saying they were totally unrealistic.

"This is delusional. There are only minutes available for a decision. How can the prime minister realistically believe the U.S. will consult him before firing their interceptor missiles?" party defense spokesman Gordon O'Connor asked Parliament. <

Once again, it seems as if conservatives have a monopoly on common sense. Glad to know that intelligent conservativism transcends national borders.

When you fire one up Martin's shorts, it won't hurt my feelings if I haven't been asked.

Canada is paying Kyoto 1.4 Billion dollars for carbon dioxide credits, when their air belongs to this sovereign country. For that kind of money they could have bought some protection.

Paul Martin is already being lambasted by newspapers all over as a caricature of 'Mr Dithers', as he is notorious for 'dithering' over any and every issue. He was a fairly competent finance minister during the regime of the Little Dictator Jean Cretin, but it is obvious that Martin is WAY out of his league as PM. He talks a good game, but his tin political ear will one day be his undoing.

I'd like to think that Harper and the Conservatives are just biding their time, waiting for Martin to find the biggest and most slippery banana peel that will bring down that infernal and corrupt Liberal regime, but due to Martin's latest budget that was released this week, there is probably enough largesse and gimme-money in there that enough Canadian voters will respond accordingly: what Martin has done this week is just a more subtle version of what the Democrats do when they buy the votes of homeless people with packs of cigarettes and other gratuities.

The Liberal reign in Canada has produced the same result that two terms of Jimmy Carter and two terms of Walter Mondale would have produced for America.

Now as for Martin's blathering about how America 'must consult them' before launching an anti-ballistic missile?

As long as Canada is part of NORAD, they can consider themselves 'consulted' on a daily basis, and if there is an incoming nuke detected, Canada can just STFU and step aside while the big boys take care o' business.

As usual. And then we'll let Ottawa know when it's safe for them to climb out from under their collective beds.

Well Mr. Martin....or is that Martian???? We DON'T consult with NOONE when we decide to do something and if you don't want to join the rest of the world in missile protection, well go bury your head where the sun doesn't shine and take the rest of your 'folks' with ya!!!!!!!

"Paul Martin is already being lambasted by newspapers all over as a caricature of 'Mr Dithers'"

The Martin government is a case of tragedy, turning into farce, right before our eyes.

What the EFF are they going to do about it, ha ha ha... they don't have an army or an airforce or diddly squat.

Are the Canadians going to tell the North Koreans, Iranians, Russians, Chinese etc that they have to get permission first before they shoot missiles at the USA??

Naw, we don't want them as states. They would all vote for the Democrats and bring their pitiful socialism down here.

Let them keep their small brains and non-existent masculinity up in the far moose ranges.
