Canada Says U.S. Must Consult Before Missile Launch
Reuters via Yahoo! News ^

> Canada, which this week refused to join a U.S. missile system designed to protect North America, nevertheless insisted on Friday that Washington must consult it before firing rockets into Canadian airspace.

"This is our space, our airspace. We're a sovereign nation and you don't intrude on a sovereign nation's airspace without seeking permission," Prime Minister Paul Martin told reporters. <

So, we have to ask permission to shoot down a warhead headed our way? Right, we'll get on that, Mr. we-spend-less-than-half-of-the-NATO-average-on-defense.

Also in the article was a quote by the Conservative Party of Canada:

> The opposition Conservatives mocked Martin's comments, saying they were totally unrealistic.

"This is delusional. There are only minutes available for a decision. How can the prime minister realistically believe the U.S. will consult him before firing their interceptor missiles?" party defense spokesman Gordon O'Connor asked Parliament. <

Once again, it seems as if conservatives have a monopoly on common sense. Glad to know that intelligent conservativism transcends national borders.

Can't we all get along? How about a compromise -- we won't shoot down the ones that look likely to land in Canada?

Ubelievable arrogance and dilusion to think that we would take the time (tens of minutes at least) to contact him and get approval while nucleare missiles are headed our way foir impact (5-10 minutes).

They guy is certifiable.

I hope the Canadian people see this and turn him out.

[Martin] insisted on Friday that Washington must consult it before firing rockets into Canadian airspace.

Here's a thought. If a rocket is headed our way we're going to knock it down. Then Canada can send a strongly worded protect to the UN.

Tell them no problem if we determine from projectory analysis that the missle will hit Canada, we will mail them a notice - however, if projections suggest it will hit the U.S., we also will mail them a request but take such actions as are in our interests.

We could buzz their airspace with a half-deflated Goodyear blimp, and they would be powerless to do anything about it.

Completely ridiculous.

If liberals would learn only to speak when they had something intelligent to say they all resemble mimes.

BBBBBRRRRRRIIIIINNNNGGGGGG!!!!!!

Hello, sorry but we here at the US Government are not able to answer your call at this time. We see a missle, probably nuclear, headed for Quebec. It should be detonating in the next 15 minutes or so.

Since you found it necessary to 'talk' to the US Government before we launch any missles to protect your country we are in the process of trying to establish communications. Please leave a name and number where you can be reached and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Have a nice day!
