Almost 50 percent of Americans, according to recent polls, and millions of people elsewhere in the world believe that UFOs are real. For many it is a deeply held belief.
For decades there have been sightings of UFOs by millions and millions of people. It is a mystery that only science can solve, and yet the phenomenon remains largely unexamined. Most of the reporting on this subject by the mainstream media holds those who claim to have seen UFOs up to ridicule.
On Feb. 24, "Peter Jennings Reporting: UFOs Seeing Is Believing" takes a fresh look at the UFO phenomenon. "As a journalist," says Jennings, "I began this project with a healthy dose of skepticism and as open a mind as possible. After almost 150 interviews with scientists, investigators and with many of those who claim to have witnessed unidentified flying objects, there are important questions that have not been completely answered and a great deal not fully explained."
"Peter Jennings Reporting: UFOs Seeing Is Believing" airs Thursday, Feb. 24 from 8-10 p.m. ET on ABC. The program will be broadcast in High Definition.
This two-hour primetime special reports on the entire scope of the UFO experience from the first famous sighting by Kenneth Arnold in 1947 to the present day. The program draws on interviews with police officers, pilots, military personnel, scientists and ordinary citizens who give extraordinary accounts of encounters with the unexplained. Also included are the voices of professional skeptics about UFOs, including scientists who are leading the search for life forms beyond Earth elsewhere in the universe.
The program explores the facts behind the enduring mystery of the incident at Roswell, N.M., and looks into the strange stories of alien abductions. Among the UFO cases presented:
Minot Air Force Base, N.D., October 1968 Sixteen airmen on the ground and the crew of an airborne B-52 witness a massive unidentified object hovering near the base.
Phoenix, March 1997 Hundreds witness a huge triangular craft moving slowly over the city.
St. Clair County, Ill., January 2000 Police officers in five adjoining towns all independently report witnessing a giant craft with multiple bright lights moving silently across the sky at a very low altitude.
Today if you report a UFO to the U.S. government you will be informed that the Air Force conducted a 22-year investigation that ended in 1969 and concluded that UFOs are not a threat to national security and are of no scientific interest. But as one of the world's leading theoretical physicists says in the program, "You simply cannot dismiss the possibility that some of these UFO sightings are actually sightings from some object created by a civilization perhaps millions of years ahead of us in technology."
"Peter Jennings Reporting: UFOs Seeing Is Believing" is produced by PJ Productions and Springs Media for ABC News. Mark Obenhaus and Tom Yellin are the executive producers.
Did jennings blame Pres.Bush for all these UFO's????
A routine abduction experience would fit the bill re missing time.
You sound as though you have a very rational position. Show me some evidence before I believe something. I agree very much with that attitude, but I have to admit I'm inclined to think something is there for two reasons, the universe is pretty big, and I can't agree that every single sightin[g] is a mistake.
Obviously, I don't know whether or not some of the phenomena described as UFO phenomena are the result of extraterrestrially built spaceships appearing in our skies. Some might well be. But the likelihoods, as currently understood, appear to be against it. And, of course, if there are no alien extraterrestrials in our spacetime vicinity, there are a fortiori no abductions of human and animals by alien extraterrestrials.
In short, I just don't know what's going on with respect to some of the more well-attested reports of UFO sightings, and I'd like nothing better than to run across some really hard evidence which bears on the question.
ahhhh.
Didn't Betty Hill die just a few years ago? I think Barney died in the mid 80's.
They still don't.
Just checking in, I didn't get to watch the show live, unfortunately. I'm watching it on tape, and just got through the section beating the dogshtuff out of Blue Book and Hyneck's career. I have to say:
Hmm. Just Hmm. This is more interesting and thoughtful than I expected. Especially for Petah J.
See Y'all later.
They don't, but if you believe in a rapture, one thing's certain: It's getting closer. Do note that I'm not suggesting some grand MSM conspiracy aimed at explaining away the rapture. I suspect virtually none of them believe in the concept. People who don't believe in and follow God, however, follow Satan, whether they intend to or not. He knows it's getting closer, too.
MM
I will not deny the possibility, but there is no physical evidence that is available for public analysis. There are many unexplained circumstances, going as far back as cave drawings that showed man in the air. The massive drawings on the plains of Peru that are only recognizable by air. However there is nothing definitive, in centuries of mankind on this planet. And, the "spaceship" variety of UFO seems tied to the mid 20th century.
Just the Scriptures about the seed of Abraham outnumbering the stars, TO ME, implies at least man being on other planets.
Actually, I read that scripture in the exact opposite way. Perhaps we will definitively know in this lifetime. Very hopefully after.
Very graceful! I am impressed. Usually we get out backs up and insult each other.
THANSK TONS. AT 58, i DO try to keep growing, still.
Welll, in a couple more hours, I'll bve 58! LOL.
thanks for your charity, too.
Ummm....exactly how was this photo of the Milky Way taken? What is the name of the spacecraft that has left our galaxy and then took a photo and beamed it back to Earth?
Perhaps this is a photo of a galaxy that is very much similar to the Milky Way?
When I invited my psych class to view the program tonight, one student stayed after.
She had grown up on the farm ajacent to the farm where a cattle mutilation had occurred with--I believe a large craft--huge cigar shape, I think. I forget. Anyway--there were 8 cattle involved--typical organ removal and NO--ABSOLUTELY NO blood left in the cattle nor on the ground. None.
AND NO TRACKS of any kind other than the cattle to the site where they were abducted.
How would you explain that?
I saw it too. I used to work in the tower at Travis. The C-5s and KC-10s are going over all the time.
mostly disappointing, to me. But about what I expected. Slight incremental nudging but mostly, I think it was that a major news anchor would broach the subject. I'm sure that the puppet masters will observe closely the response. Then they will schedule the next incremental raising of the bar slightly.
I'm comforted, actually, that it wasn't too dramatic a bar raising. We got some time, still, to do The Lord's work with things more or less as they have been.
Well said.
- For how many hours had you been awake before lying down to rest or sleep?
- Had you ingested any intoxicants or medications before the episode began?
- Did you know that the kids were playing video games before your experience began? Were the games audible from upstairs?
- Had you had an 'out of body' experience before? Or had you read a lot about them? Or did you have a long-standing interest in hearing and talking about them?
Those are for starters (grin).
I certainly think that our era is the era for all manner of things to change dramatically.
We shall see!
Thank you for your many responses tonight.
You are quite welcome. Just one opinion. But it comes from tons of reading and conversations over the decades.
