Virginia man charged in alleged plot to assassinate Bush By MATTHEW BARAKAT

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) -- A former high school valedictorian in Virginia was charged Tuesday with conspiring to assassinate President Bush and conspiracy to support the al-Qaida terrorist network.
Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, 23, a U.S. citizen, made an initial appearance Tuesday in U.S. District Court. He claimed that he was tortured while detained in Saudi Arabia since June of 2003 and offered through his lawyer to show the judge his scars.
The indictment said that in 2002 and 2003 Abu Ali and an unidentified coconspirator discussed plans for Abu Ali to assassinate Bush. They discussed two scenarios, the indictment said, one in which Abu Ali "would get close enough to the president to shoot him on the street" and, alternatively, "an operation in which Abu Ali would detonate a car bomb."

I have found a few. Very few.
Before Sept. 11th, and shortly after, I worked with a Muslim who was (and probably still is) one of the nicest people I've ever met. However, I've had a similar experience as you, null and void. Since that horrible day, I wanted to believe that MOST Muslims are like my former co-worker. I've searched in vain for a large group of Muslims that would roundly condemn 9/11, and not give some "excuse" for it.
What I've found through my own search of their religion is that the co-worker I had over 3 years ago is probably the EXCEPTION, not the rule, to what a Muslim man is like. Indeed, I now see letting one person form my opinion of 1.2 billion others was quite wrong, but not for the reaons you think, ScarTissue.

He was born here to Jordanian parents - which makes him a US citizen - he was obviously educated/influenced by his Islamic culture (Jordanian) and elected to maintain dual-citizenship when he became an adult.
Does his father work as an immigration lawyer or for the Saudis?
Whatever the truth - send the father back to Jordan so he take his influence where it will not destroy more AMERICANS.
You post infrequently on FR and then only on threads about Islamic violence always voicing support of Muslims. Your one-tracked posting is being noted.

clear. These people are not immigrants, they came as
colonists. They maintain their own colonies and spurn
the natives customs and values.
And why should we cared if he was smart ? Looks like AP will reach for anything to try and excuse these Religion of Shi'iters.
The AP is reporting what all the media are reporting. If he was valedictorian, he was. I think it adds to the shock factor. (And please, I said "shock", not "surprise")
Anyone know which high school he attended? Just curious.
His family is the same group that the FBI raided in 2003 in Falls Church, VA. I don't have the links, but I remember the raid making breaking news on FR. I'll do some searching to see if I can find some links.

Thank the Lord that George W. Bush is President. Can you imagine if Kerry had won? Conyers and his ilk would be appointed Atty General, SecDef, SecHS, SecState... Do you think Abu Ali would have been prosecuted by a "Kerry administration"? I think they'd have held him up as a victim of American hubris.

The fact that NYT was sued for libel about supporting terrorism by Global Relief is especially ironic. You would think that after such treatment by GRF, the NYT wouldn't stick their necks out for this group but yet they did by tipping them off on an imminent Federal raid on their offices. Very interesting.
