The President had no formal appearances today, but in a 98-0 decision, nominee Michael Chertoff was confirmed as the new Secretary of Homeland Security by the Senate. President Bush signed a declaration that Ohio is a major disaster area due to a severe ice storm, heavy snow flooding and mudslides (it's still a mess here!). First Lady Laura Bush spoke today at the 2005 Community College National Legislative Summit in Washington.
The Dems are on the run and losing ground. It's a GREAT Day to be a Bushbot, so ENJOY your trip to Sanity Island on the Daily Dose!!

Do you think he is or has been ill or do you think he is a health freak?I don't know. In photos taken of him just a few years ago, he looked a lot less emaciated. News reports today describe him as a "fiery, wiry workhorse." Maybe he has the type of intense, workaholic personality that burns off calories faster than he can take them in.

"If the President has confidence in Chertoff, that's good enough for me. But I sure wish the new secretary looked less emaciated."
And sounded less like Bill Clinton. I was completely startled when I heard him on the radio today.

I'm not up on Chertoff. Do you know a reader's digest version about him?Neither am I, really. I do know this is the third time he's been confirmed by the senate for something. Last two times were for federal judgeships. Let me see if I can find a bio. If so, I'll post a link later on this thread.

**(What's WRONG with this picture??)**
I think its just that he looks very thin and older than his years.

RE; Chertoff being emaciated . . . my theory is he eats no red meat. That's why he looks so pale as well as skeletal.
The Pres. is almost a health freak, and of course exercises, but he eats red meat and looks lots healthier.

And he's picked them because he knows they're best for the job, not for any ulterior motives.

Do I??
I guess I am feeling a bit "chirpy" (that's a new one for me, I'll have to remember it!).
How are you then?
