"Million Dollar Baby" is a swindle. It's a satanic, vile movie that Eastwood should be ashamed to have had anything to do with.

Some here say they can enjoy the 'esthetic' pleasures of a movie, despite its political agenda.

What I've heard about Million Dollar Baby however is that, even on those terms, it's not a very good movie.

Even people who aren't turned off by its euthanasia theme and deceptive advertising are saying that it's just so-so, doesn't live up to the hype.

I'd like to ask Eastwood if he thinks Christopher Reeve's wife should have pulled the plug and saved him all the "unnecessary" turmoil.

While I completely disagree with Reeve's stand on stem-cell, his daily courage was above reproach.

Pity so many people see broken lives as disposable refuse.

Well put. I love reading/seeing things that describe ideas opposite to mine. First because maybe they're right and I'm wrong--I'd like some Pro-Choice person to have that kind of open mind, so they'd be willing to see the light, so I'd be a hypocrit if I were to bottle myself up and not be exposed to all points of view. Secondly, when an issue is explored in art it gives a different view the cold facts don't.

I don't know why people don't look into the things they're going to see, but if they do and find something that doesn't agree with their point of view, why not use it as a refresher course in why you believe as you do?

No, O'Reilly didn't say that assisted suicide was a good thing, he said the writers made it seem as though the Eastwood character was influenced by his failed relationship with his own daughter, to not let down the young boxer and that desire took precedence over the priestly influence. Yes O'Reilly liked the film. My objection to the film has nothing to do with the morality question, it just has to do with the film being a major tear jerker. I just don't need it and I'm glad to be forewarned.

Well, I will agree with you that some people at FR would rather pat themselves on the back and spout platitudes than actually listen to opposing opinions and then debate them intelligently.

Sometimes, though, people are not going to watch, read, or listen to something if they know it's going to upset them.

In my life, I've walked out on only a handfull of movies. But I didn't walk out of them because of their messages. I walked out because they were lousy and boring. However, I cannot honestly say that I will never walk out of a movie because I'm offended by its theme. Can you?

Hey, if euthanasia isn't completely based on pure hedonism, how come no one wants someone to kill them when they are having fun?

Man, I fell great--somebody please give me death with dignity!

Heck, it's easy to snuff yourself when everything is bad. I want to see a movie where someone has the 'heart' and 'courage' to euthanize someone who is healthy and having a great time....

I can. It's a ridiculous reason to walk out of a movie. Why would I walk out of a movie because of it's message? It's not mind control, my brain isn't going to rebel and be consumed by a theme I don't believe in. I find being offended by a theme weird--it's just someone expressing a point of view, and what's wrong with that?

You don't like to expand your knowledge? I read lots of things on different topics - if you are into hisytory you need to know the world views of the people who made history. I do not consider ignorance as bliss.

I'm not worried about mind control either but I'm still not 100% certain that I would not walk out of a movie because of its message, whether real, or inferred by me.

If anyone needs to see MDB in order to know there are forces in Hollywood and elsewhere who push a cruel and unredeeming euthanasia agenda, by all means see it.

They'll be out $10.50 and two hours, however. Hopefully, this thread can save someone a few bucks.

If more people walked out of movie theaters and demanded their money back (which they'd ususally get) different and better movies would be made.

That's commerce.
