MARINES dissed in Washington DC bar -- UNBELIEVABLE story

Edited on 01/30/2005 7:45:24 PM PST by Jim Robinson. [history]

A good friend called me a few hours ago terribly upset. Her two sons, both United States Marines, were in Washington DC last night (Saturday) with their dates. They went to the Hawk and Dove, which is a Capitol Hill watering hole.

Now before I go any farther here, understand that I know these two Marines and these are really good kids, hardly the rowdy type -- both went through OCS and are just not the troublemaking types.

At any rate, they were NOT ALLOWED entry into the Hawk and Dove. They were told that the military WAS NOT WELCOME and that especially was true for MARINES.

Is your blood boiling yet???? Mine is. I cannot reveal who these Marines' parents are, but let me tell you, my Freeper brethren, this is a patriotic family who has done much for our nation. (Their mother spends many weekends at Walter Reed with the injured soldiers and even had a house full of them over for Thanksgiving.) I'm telling you, this is an extraordinary family that has given much in service to our country.

So here's the deal. I want this bar to know of our displeasure with their disrespectful behavior toward these two young Marines.

At the very least, I'd like to see a round for these young men on the house and a profuse apology from the owner.

Perhaps you are correct. I still suspect they were in uniform.

I called and spoke to the manager (Paul Meagher) who confirmed what happened Saturday night. His excuse was that the bar had been pressured by the insurance company.

Wow! So it HAS been confirmed! I'd say some action is called for, but I don't know of anything else other than a boycott of the place.

when I talked with him, he said that they had just concluded a team meeting where this was discussed. He said that the policy stands.

"And using your logic then all Dems should be kept out because one is a fat drunk and causes trouble!"

Yeah, exactly!

If I owned a bar there would be a sign on the door that says, "No demliblefprosoccom pigs allowed and no DUers and especially that fat, drunk, murdering Tedward Kennedy Oh and no frenchmen or other EU weasels!"

Stuck - check out posts 222 and 225 for current information.

Laura Ingram (sp?) is to bring up this subject in her show today.

Thank you for alerting us to this issue, Gadfly. Much appreciated.

After all information is displayed, I'll expect Stuck to apologize as a gentleman would.

In the case of Marines generally the haircut gives you away.

Yes, and the way they carry themselves. It is a dead giveaway!

What issue does the insurance company have with Marines?

From what I recall from our conversation, the manager said that in the past they had trouble with Marines starting fights etc., and as a result the insurance company said that to keep their coverage, they would have to refuse service. This is what he meant by being "pressured by the insurance company". When I flat out asked if they would apologize, he didn't know why they needed to.

There isn't a vet on this board who hasn't been through this.

I had saved this thread from a while ago, has to do with what vets went through after Nam. Some good personal stories on here. I think this prof got a bit of a tounge lashing... (urban myth spitting on vets) :)

What a lame response from the manager.

Let's suppose, just for the sake of argument, that in the past the Hawk and Dove had had trouble with a few young Black males, starting fights etc., and as a result the insurance company said that to keep their coverage, they would have to refuse service.

Does anyone here think that the Hawk and Dove would consider -- even for a minute -- refusing service to people (even people of the same race and sex as some who cause trouble) because of someone's race? or sex? Or, that if they did, they would not be the subject of a lawsuit that would end up with them paying lots and lots and lots of money.

Lame. Just Lame.

I dunno. I DO know that I was in an elevator in the Russell Senate Office Bldg. with Sen. Kerry, his lovely wife Teeeerrrraaaaaayyyyyyza and a couple of staffers the day of the Inauguration. Talked about the entire horrifying experience with Doug From Upland on RIGHTALK at the Freeper Ball.

You're spreading rumors and making stuff up again! It's obvious you never saw Kerry, and doug from upland is a figment of your imagination! (/sarcasm)

Starting fights? Or finishing those started by lefty hill staffers?
