Thread started for a prayer vigil for the Iraqi elections. I'm sure many would enjoy reading and joining you in prayers you might post here this week. Please also keep this momentous event in your thoughts and prayers continuously throughout your daily activities.

Please invite others to join in this prayer vigil, and to post their prayers here as they see fit.

THANKS. I agree and claim that, as the minister prayed at the Inauguration, "THAT NO WEAPON FORMED AGAINST THEM WOULD PROSPER" and I claim that truth, in Jesus' Name.

God Bless America and Israel and Iraq!

America and Israel and Iraq (and others) -- BLESS and HONOR GOD!

I pray to God that these people will have the courage to show that they want to be free to live like any other free people, not having to be afraid for their lives every day of their lives! Bless the efforts that are being put forth in their behalf both by their leaders, our President, and our military men and women who provide security so that these people may do their duty to their country. Father be with our troops and keep them safe from harm from a faceless, evil enemy. Be with the families of those service personnel who have died or been injured in this war against terrorism, and I ask that You give them comfort that only You can provide.

Rev. Kirbyjon Caldwell, senior pastor of Windsor Village United Methodist Church in Houston, delivered the benediction prayer at the close of President Bush's inauguration January 20. Here is a transcript:

Oh Lord God Almighty, the supply and supplier of faith and freedom, how excellent is Your name in all the earth. You are great and greatly to be praised. God, as we conclude this 55th inaugural ceremony, we conclude it with an attitude of thanksgiving. Thank You for protecting America's borders. After all, the Psalmist reminds us, unless You, O God, guard the territory, our efforts will be in vain.

Thank You for our armed service personnel. And it is with unswerving thanksgiving that we pause to remember the persons who have made the ultimate sacrifice to help ensure America's safety. Thank You, O God, for surrounding our personnel, their families, their friends and our allies with Your favor and Your faithfulness.

Deploy Your hosts from heaven so that Your will for America will be performed on earth as it is already perfected in heaven. I confess that Your face will shine upon the United States of America, granting us social peace and economic prosperity, particularly for the weary and the poor.

I also confess, God, that each American's latter days will be better than their former days. Let it be unto us according to Your Word.

Rally the Republicans, the Democrats and the Independents around Your common good so that America will truly become one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty, justice and equal opportunity for all -- including the least, the last and the lost.

Bless every elected official right now. God, I declare Your blessings to shower upon our president, George W. Bush. Bless him, his family and his administration. I once again declare that no weapon formed against them shall prosper.

God, forgive us for becoming so ensnarled in petty partisan politics that we miss Your glory and block our purpose. Deliver us from the evil one, from evil itself and from the mere appearance of evil.

Lord, we come before Your throne of Grace, asking for Your blessings on the people of Iraq as they prepare for the upcoming election. Bind the hands of satan as he seeks to disrupt or even prevent this important event; thwart the efforts of the forces of darkness. Watch over the citizens of Iraq and also over the sons and daughters of America who fight for the freedom of those people long-oppressed. Let the people choose their new leaders wisely and lead the new officials to establish a government that will bring liberty and justice to all. Amen.

From Optimom:

Prayers for our brave soldiers and the Iraqi people from my son and I. May God send his own army of angels to confound the enemy and keep them from harming the good guys. Amen.

Amen to your prayers, optimom. Continue to pray unceasingly. The critical hours are approaching. People of faith all over the world, please pray that the lives of the innocent will be preserved throughout this noble effort, that our faithful and courageous citizens in Iraq will be protected, and that the people of Iraq will gain the joys of freedom and self-determination.

Heavenly Father, we return to thank You that there is fierce determination that the Iraqi people will express their desires with their vote ... let nothing hinder that determination, O God, for there are those who would bring catastrophe to prevent the breath of freedom from sweeping across the land. Give the greatest wisdom and discernment to those who are protecting people and places, that the citizens may come and go in confidence and safety. May the media be compelled to truthfully tell the story of this monumental moment, that the world may rejoice that freedom has truly visited this land. We pray, Merciful Father, that this would be the beginning of the end of insurgency ... may the people of Iraq step forward in glorious freedom. In the Name of Jesus, Amen ...

Dear Heavenly Father,

Please watch over the elections tomorrow. May You keep the voter safe from harm and from being intimidated by the terrorists who want to keep freedom away. Send Your angels to help them, Father.

I pray for the success of this election in that the Iraqis will want to continue holding free elections. For those who seek to thwart freedom and cause harm tomorrow, I ask that You put a stumbling block to their path, that You will convict them of their wrong, that they would learn of the real You!

I pray for our troops, the brave men and women who are there to bring about the reality of freedom to Iraq. Keep them safe from evil.

In our Saviour Jesus's name,
Amen.
