What does the rite of the Bishop have to do with it? You can see from my post THAT I AM CONCERNED fo rthis Catholic Bishop and all the Iraqi Chrstians (as well as for Iraqi secularists).
What's up with bearing all this false witness against me? Also false, is your scenario of a Saddam gunning for Christians - never in all the bloody reign of Saddam did he carry out pogroms against Christians (or Iraqi Jews for that matter) to satisfy the Muslim blood lust. Saddam's only documented religous pogroms were against Islamics against his secular Ba'athist state. PERIOD.
But again you don't have a problem with the false witness part again.

Seeing what these evil creeps have done to other good people I have great fear for the bishop. I will pray that he will escape a horrible fate.

I didn't say he WAS, I said he would, if it had benefited him. He kept a lid on Muslim extremists because he knew they were out to get him, but towards the end of his reign, he was definitely beginning to see the benefits of a closer relationship with Muslim extremism in the ME.
I'm not "bearing false witness" against you. I simply found your posts very negative, and I have noticed in many of your other posts on the Balkans that you tend to be quite negative towards Catholics.
I also have disputes with the Church - I don't think it does enough to defend Catholics against Muslim attacks, mostly because of the left-wing sympathies of many in the European and American heirarchy.

Keep rewriting history Destro. You need to in order to fuel all that hatred of all things Roman.
To: livius
My main dispute with our approach is that we, like Rome, never insist on protection of Christians, because we are afraid it will look like favoritism. My question is, what's wrong with that? Christians are not the ones causing problems in those countries, and we should reward them, rather than abandon them. The following quote was written over 75 years ago, but is probably more true today than when it was written:
"These are the days when the Christian is expected to praise every creed except his own." --G.K. Chesterton

Since I live in the NY Tri-State area, I can't remember if I saw it on local news or on FoxNews. But it was the 16 year-old daughter who was brutalized the most and received the stab wound through the Coptic cross tatto on her arm.

"They did not doe for being Christians - if you died under Saddam it was for being a Muslim militant and for anti-Saddam regime political intrigue."Same thing as far as Saddam was concerned. He had a "thing" with pacifying diverse populations, all of which were not the Sunnis he favored in order to garner the continued patronage of the House of Saud. Not being a Sunni made you suspect of being anti-Saddam.

"The other problem is that the Church has not been very forthright in supporting Christians anywhere, and always kowtows to the Muslims. I doubt that anything is going to happen to change this, even if the unfortunate bishop appears in one of their gruesome videos."
Unfortunately, I think you're right. And it won't just be the Roman Church that does nothing. The West, including the US will do nothing. But this isn't anything new. In 1922,the Turks sacked the City of Smyrna. The Greek Orthodox Metropolitan there, +Chrysostomos was set upon by a mob of Turks. It was reported,"They (the Turks) uprooted his eyes and, while he was bleeding, dragged him by his beard through the streets of the Turkish quarter. He was beaten and kicked, and pieces of his skin cut off. All the while, Chrysostomos, his pace face covered with blood, had his face turned upwards, continuously praying "Holy Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." Every now and then, when he had the strength to do so, he would raise his right hand and blessed his persecutors. A Turk realized what Chrysostomos was doing and got so furious that he cut off the Metropolitan's hand with his sword. Metropolitan Chrysostomos fell to the ground, and was hacked to pieces by the angry mob." All the while there was a fleet of Allied ships, including American, in the harbor watching and doing next to nothing.

say good bye to religious tolerance and freedom in Iraq. It often happens that a tyrant keeps warring factions at a distance from each other. But this kidnapping is yet more evidence that Saddam-supporting Sunnis would not be the most freedom-loving rulers of Iraq. It is all the more reason for us to vanquish the bad guys and let the good Iraqis rule.
