President and Mrs. Bush did not make any public appearances today as the prepare for this week's 2nd Inaugural. The President proclaimed Sunday as National Sanctity of Human Life Day and Religious Freedom Day.
Today's Presidential Radio Address dealt with the issue of Social Security. For those interseted in reading the entire transcript (it's not long), click here: whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/01/20050115.html
QUOTE OF THE DAY: When President Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act in 1935, the average life expectancy was about 60 years, which meant that most Americans would not live to become eligible for benefits, then set at age 65.
Today, most Americans enjoy longer lives and longer retirements. And that presents a looming challenge. Because Social Security was created as a pay-as-you-go system, current retirees are supported by the taxes paid by current workers. Unfortunately, the ratio of workers to retirees is falling steadily. In the 1950s, there were about 16 workers paying in for each person drawing out. Today, it's about three workers for every beneficiary. And by the time today's workers in their mid 20s begin to retire, there will be just over two.

I can tell he appreciates hearing the support from this end...thanks!
You have freep mail......
God Bless your friend and keep him safe
I'll tell him now...he's talking about how much support he had when he was home on leave.
That eases my mind!
That is wonderful to hear what with all the negative stuff you get from the MSM
This fellow gets it, even though his unit is having a tough time. It is SO neat to talk to him!
The funniest Brit sitcoms I've ever seen was an oldie called, "Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em." Ever seen it?
It's so funny, I'm about to go to sleep, and he's just getting up for work!
He's such a nice fella...
He appreciates your good tidings!
See ya later, I'm off to bed!
About 1000s times LOL. We keep getting it repeated on UK Gold and even BBC.
They only ever made 2 series each I think of 6 episodes but because it has been shown so many times one thinks that there are more.
I loved the car on cliff and the one where he was on roller skates.
God Bless you all and God Bless America.
Good night.
I think the day I saw the president with tears in his eyes is the first day I let myself cry about 9/11. Before that, I just didn't dare.
He's a good man with a good heart and I don't think we can ask for anyone more decent to sit in the Oval Office and make decision on our behalf.
Thanks for the ping and for the wonderful pictures of a President who knows how and when to have a good time. Look forward to seeing the pups tomorrow! You know--I LUV W!
Beautiful words, Gretchen. God bless this president. Guide and protect him as he leads this country and commands the greatest bunch of troops in the world!
Cheeta had class--Kerry does not!
I'm never going to be able to say your screen name, nor spell it or be able to type it! So, hello and I'll not have much to say to you.
I haven't heard anything on that but I have never been able to see W (or Laura) being constantly content so far out in the boonies after he leaves office. Former presidents tend to have a lot of callers. Both W and Laura are "people people."
This pic is wonderful but I don't know when it was taken. (I'm Italian). Can you tell me?
Oh, that wuold be great if you could put that lightening on Dubya's pic! :^D
