President and Mrs. Bush did not make any public appearances today as the prepare for this week's 2nd Inaugural. The President proclaimed Sunday as National Sanctity of Human Life Day and Religious Freedom Day.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: When President Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act in 1935, the average life expectancy was about 60 years, which meant that most Americans would not live to become eligible for benefits, then set at age 65.
Today, most Americans enjoy longer lives and longer retirements. And that presents a looming challenge. Because Social Security was created as a pay-as-you-go system, current retirees are supported by the taxes paid by current workers. Unfortunately, the ratio of workers to retirees is falling steadily. In the 1950s, there were about 16 workers paying in for each person drawing out. Today, it's about three workers for every beneficiary. And by the time today's workers in their mid 20s begin to retire, there will be just over two.

Just got done reading a fantastic, interesting, very thought-provoking novel. It's by Michael Crichton and called "State of Fear." The main theme is about environmental wackos but says a lot about our society as a whole. And. . . he's on the conservative side. VERY interesting read.

It is a thankless job. Especially when half of your country is a bunch of selfish, leftists that cannot think without government assistance, or at least want it that way.
No, I would not want his job, especially what he inherited from the Clintoni administration in terms of a degraded military and intel community. He had to take a big risk running with damaged capability in those areas.

It is a gorgeous view of the White House.
I like his books in general, but this is the best I can remember. If you read it you'll learn LOTS about global warming, etc.--the TRUTH about it (lots of references).
I won't give away the plot other than to say a natural disaster was *almost* manufactured in the book, that happened for REAL in the world recently. Kind of gave me goosebumps reading about it.
Umm...maybe because his brother is governor there, and it's a fairly quick day trip from Washington and back.

Good evening, WCG. I usually try to catch the dog shows. We have Time Warner cable in this vicinity. For some bizzare reason, they switched channels between MTV2 and Animal Planet. Now I have to remember that AP is not on channel 45 anymore.
Thanks for the pix and the DC weather forecast. I hope the snow isn't for Inauguration Day, it looks like we will have a 10 block or so walk to where we will be for the parade as it is. Luckily, we will be inside during the parade, hopefully will catch some good views of it although I'm sure it will be crowded there like on the sidewalks.
I will try to post some updates of our adventures in DC on the Dose next week.
