HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Two men have been arrested for trading lawyer jokes while waiting on line to get into First District Court in Hempstead.
The two men, 69-year-old Harvey Kash, of Bethpage, and 65-year-old Carl Lanzisera, of Huntington, were in court Monday as part of their work with Americans for Legal Reform, a group that monitors how the courts serve the public.
While waiting on a long line to get through into court, they began telling each other lawyer jokes such as, "How do you tell if a lawyer is lying? Answer: his lips are moving."
Well, an attorney within earshot got angry and told court officers that the two men were disturbing the public.
They were handcuffed and charged with disorderly conduct.
The two men said their First Amendment free speech rights were violated.
The men were given desk appearance tickets and are due back in court next month.
BTW, when do we "celebrate" law day?
You're right. I used to work with an attorney, and he could keep us in stitches with lawyer jokes.
Well ya know what, the best way for the 'good lawyers' to undue some of this latest public relations disaster for your profession would be to call around and make sure these 2 persons get free representation from quality lawyers to:
1) fight this
2) clear up their record
3) go after this abusive slimeball harassing POS lawyer to insure he is punished and a message sent that such abuse of power is not only wrong but will carry a high price
And...we could use that same statistic to prove that the higher the percentage of lawyers in a country, the higher the crime rate. Hmmm...causation?

I know a guy who appeared before the mayor of the town sitting as a magistrate about a seat belt ticket. Talk about your conflict of interest, eh?
Thankfully, Mayor Eddie Long of Smithers, WV was not too long after that snagged by the FBI following a lengthy covert investigation, and sent to jail for a good couple of years on mail fraud charges because he was instructing police officers not to show up for DUI cases involving his friends and political donors.
You could always appeal, unless the deadline has passed.
You would have to have specially trained lawyer-hounds, because you wouldn't want your foxhounds to (1) learn to follow other animals, or (2) have their sense of smell destroyed. And I'm not sure the fox terriers would consent to dig out a lawyer . . .
I would worry about losing a hound or an overeager horse over a cliff . . . some clever foxes cross interstate highways to get away from the pack and field . . .
The USA is turning into a "nation of lawyers". The number of lawyers in USA has increased rapidly in the recent time, and now, USA actually has one lawyer for every 440 inhabitants. In comparison, Japan has only one lawyer for every 10 000 inhabitants. The question, I guess, is: Is this a dangerous development? Chief Justice Warren Burger says that "We may well be on our way to a society overrun by hordes of lawyers, hungry as locusts, and brigades of judges in numbers never before contemplated." And a former deputy U.S. attorney said that the "unbridled" growth of the American legal process could threaten the democracy and capitalism in USA like a cancer. ....that is a quote and not of my writing...but it still holds true...
You must be a lawyer..they always try to refute the 87% number......but to no avail...do the math...and you will see that we have too many damned lawyers.
And equating the numbers of lawyers to prosperity is like saying.....WE have more criminals in the US..so we need more lawyers.....or...We have more laws in the US..so we need more lawyers......which is not a good thing. We should do something about the criminals and get rid of the so many laws and then get rid of these parasites.
The people who first settled this country hated lawyers...they knew that they were trouble and made it their business to make sure they did not interfere with this new country.
That's probably my favorite lawyer joke. I think my least favorite lawyer joke is David Kendall.

To be a judge you must possess two qualities. Gray hair to look wise and hemmorhoids to look concerned.
First year of lawy school is not just for knowledge, its to make future lawyers think a certain way. The attitude can be learned or is that indoctrinated?
They can't swim that low?
