Pro-Family Film Shunned by Hollywood Now a Great Success (55 weeks running!)

GRAND RAPIDS, January 5, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A film rejected by Hollywood distributors has set a record for the longest test screening in history -- 55 weeks -- set at the Michigan theatre where it has been playing since December 2003. The pro-family, feel-good comedy, Uncle Nino, out-endured every other film released in the US in 2004, including The Passion of the Christ.

Made for only US $2.9 million and shot in 25 days, Uncle Nino is the story of "an eccentric Italian relative whose visit helps heal a fractured American family," according to a telegraph.co.uk report.

The test-screening was expected to last two weeks, but because of the massive popularity at the Grand Rapids cinema where it debuted, Uncle Nino continues to be shown.

Hollywood distributors all initially rejected the movie. The Grand Rapids theatre that screened the movie did so only after being persuaded by a friend of the film's creator. The producers have finally landed a distribution contract and Uncle Nino will be released in the U.S. in February, and Internationally later in 2005.

The film is the work of Chicago director Robert Shallcross, writer of the 1994 movie Little Giants, who has spent the intervening years directing television commercials.

"I wanted to tell a story about an American family that was missing out on some of the simple, important pleasures in life," he said. He said the hectic pace of advertising that left him little time to spend with his four children was the inspiration for writing the movie.

Actor Pierrino Mascarino, who plays the Italian uncle, has traveled on several occasions to the Grand Rapids cinema, "appearing at screenings unannounced and in character and hugging audience members as they leave."

The "Passion of the Christ", "Therese, The Movie" and now "Uncle Nino". Hollywood continues to promote violence, sex and sheer, nonsensical drivel, to the American public. Let's continue to respond by throwing our support to movies such as these! Uncle Nino will be coming to a movie theater near you, soon. Check local listings.

Good Movies are doing well while movies Like Alexander, promoting homosexuality are doing badly. Will Hollyweird listen to the public and start making good family movies? Not a chance.

Hey, we're not liberal pinko commie pansy-waisted folks here! Let's not knock the violent movies that much. Nothing better than a good blood-letting patriotic war movie here and there!

The Incredibles is a fantastic, pro-family, anti-liberal movie too

55 weeks? In Grand Rapids? Until I see some numbers, I'm guessing either this "theatre" is not your everyday cinema complex (e.g. if it weren't for this movie, it'd be closed), or that a "test screening" means the movie is shown once or twice a week.

Even then, if it's averaging more than 25 people per week after 55 weeks, I'm impressed.

Pantywaisted?

Could be. Makes more sense that way, now that I think about it. I've always heard pansywaisted though . . . a not-so-PC term for homosexual.

Dittos here! Anyone who does not laugh themselves silly, or is somehow offended by The Incredibles is hopeless.

Now there's a thought.... don't got to movies and watch hollyweird sweat... Me I just wait for the dvd then rent it unless its somthing epic like oh say... The lord of the Rings trilogy. Speaking of Hannable... There is lots of great history, strategy and tactics as well as battles in that story.... leave it to hollywierd to turn it into a freakin homosexual F*&K fest....

I'm with you pal.

I just checked out the Nino web site and watched the long trailer. Not impressed. This is no "Greek Wedding".
Hollywood probably won't touch it because it reeks.

There is only about one movie a year I would even consider going to a theatre to watch and I know you can't always tell from a trailer, but it seems the writer has tried too hard to pull the heartstrings--and the laughs look weak. Also, they should have employed unknown actors--that works best for low-budget big-hits (Greek Wedding, Breaking Away, Blair Witch). Instead, Nino employs some actors who are known--known for being creepy in other really bad low-budget films.

Nothing beats a good book. It also helps your spelling and expands your vocabulary!!

If your standard form of expression is a collection of colorful expletive deletives and not much else, what are you going to have to say when you get really upset!!

Yes, I definitely feel Adam Sandler out-acted Jim Caviezel's Christ when he did "Spanglish".

The only reason they are considered ACTORS is because that's what they keep telling each other they are. They even tell each other they are GREAT!!!

For instance J-LO's a$$, hell I've seen a lot of beautiful buns in my time and there are a hell of a lot nicer than J-lo's, just go to the Supermarket in the summertime or just about anyplace else !! Now where are those cans of beans??? Ha Ha Ha Ha!!

No kidding. Just because a movie is wholesome doesn't mean it isn't lazy, formulaic crap.
