It's midnight in Baghdad. Maybe they're waiting till tomorrow so Allawi can break the news.

I think they're waiting until after John Conyers succeeds in having congress overturn Bush's election tomorrow.

I still say if they got him, they won't confirm till they get more info. I am inclined to beleive this is connected to the switch in their search for OBL. Post #140

Naw, Rove is holding off on announcing that al-Zarqawi has been captured until the morning of the 6th, because that news will overshadow the election-overthrowing news of the Ohio electors being contested in congress. (Boxer is the latest bet to be the 'one' senator they need)

Dittos. Zarqawi is a major major capture and we would have a multitude of reasons to keep it hushed up until we can secure him at a safe, secure location for interrogation.

What also makes us delay news on a Zarqawi capture: We may also be gearing up all kinds of security for prominent Iraqis so they can't be taken hostage or murdered to secure Zarqawi's release. Other security measures too. The terrorists will want this uber-vermin back and may resort to very spectacular terrorism to compel his release.

A guerrilla who was on the wanted list for his involvement in a terrorist attack in Chechnya’s Vedeno district has been detained, sources in the federal forces in the North Caucasus told Interfax on Tuesday.

The militant, who is a resident of the Vedeno district’s village of Dyshne-Vedeno, was identified as a member of separatist leader Shamil Basayev’s group. The guerrilla is reported to have been involved in planting a landmine on Lenin Street in Dyshne-Vedeno. Several federal servicemen were injured when the bomb exploded. A search for the group’s other members is underway.[ship]

In this case...we may never know, other than we don't hear anything from him again. I do know the rumor is widespread now, and if it is not true...we will know. If it is true, we may not ever have confirmation.

People were giving you a hard time about posting this yesterday. It still may not pan out to be true, but you were the first to post it here. Remember that I took up for you yesterday. Thanks for keeping your eyes open.

You will know when Zarqawi is captured though there will likely be a time delay. What you won't know is where he is being stashed away. This is obviously a very sensitive issue

MSNBC said senior U.S. military and intelligence sources told it the reports are not true.

If the story were confirmed untrue, MSNBC would not have to quote an anonymous Pentagon source. Signs are pointing to a delayed confirmation either way, probably pending DNA tests, which takes a day or two. The post from someone that they'd like to Allawi make the announcement if it is true makes good sense. If this were confirmed untrue, the Pentagon would "officially" debunk via a named spokesman.

No, that's Mulla Omar.

Mullah Omar is actually missing an eye and by some reports part of his brain.

I'm surpised he allowed himself to be taken alive.

Wait, how would we have a baseline sample of his DNA?

Good point, possibly from relatives... We've also captured former hideouts in Fallujah (forensic evidence recovered?), and at least one letter to bin Laden.

Local Kurdish media: Al-Zarqawi was arrested

04/01/2005 KurdishMedia.com London (KurdishMedia.com) 04 January 2005: Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, whom the US occupation authorities declared to be the "target number one" in Iraq, has been arrested in the city of Baakuba, reported local Kurdish media.

Al-Zarqawi, leader of the radical Islamic group Al-Tawhid Wa’al-Jihad, whom the US put a bounty of US$10 million, was recently appointed the director of the Al-Qaeda organisation in Iraq.

KurdishMedia.com could not verify the report.

I'm not.

All these big brave jihad heroes are great at convincing retards and misfits to go blow themselves up for Allah, but when the rubber meets the road, they themselves are as meek as lambs.

If Z-man was really captured, he was probably dressed as a woman and is now crying like a little girl.
