MSNBC said senior U.S. military and intelligence sources told it the reports are not true. A newspaper in the United Arab Emirates, al-Bayane, reported in its Tuesday edition that the Jordanian-born terrorist had been arrested in Baqouba, Iraq. Iraqi Kurdistan radio also reported the arrest of al-Zarqawi.
The U.S. military in December said al-Zarqawi likely is in the Baghdad area."
You maybe on to something thier, maybe thier trying to force him to get a message out letting everyone know he's ok. So they can try and get a lock on where he is.
I wouldn't expect anything "official" from the US Gov't.
Usually the military brass and intel agencies LOVE to keep these "big catches" a secret for a week or two if they can. You know follow up leads, try to get into and move up the ladder, etc.
Once people KNOW he was captured, structures change, contingency plans go into effect, etc. They want to stay ahead of that if possible.
Anyway, IF its true, I'd expect more 'rumors' leaked, and an official annoucement by someone in Iraq (probably motivated by politics) whenever it does come.
