One of the things I appreciate most about Free Republic is the humor. As JimRob says about FR posting: "And we always have fun doing it."
So what were the funniest FR threads of 2004? Here are a few to get us started:
Funniest Category or Type of Thread
The "Caption" threads. John Kerry, Howard Dean, and the rest gave us plenty of "photo opportunities." One of the funniest was this thread posted by dead: Bwaaaaahaaaaa! My new favorite Soccer Kerry picture just released by Reuters! (Unfortunately, old caption threads lose a lot of their pics as the news photos time out.)
Funniest Ongoing Series of Threads
The "DUmmie FUnnies," put together by PJ-Comix. Seeing the Democratic Underground "DUmmies" in despair is pure Schadenfreude. The most recent example (it's hard to pick just one) is the thread from yesterday: DUmmie FUnnies 12-30-04
Funniest Single Thread of the Year
You need tons click "co-ordinating" (Free Republic - The conservative click Guerilla), posted by Jim Robinson. Goofy Google translation of a German Spiegel article about FReeping.
And it's bride thread that started just today after the old one ran out of posts: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1306051/posts?page=1432
I promise you... he did not learn manners.
No, he certainly didn't. What bothered me more were those who defended him (Coopster, King Prout). They excused him because of his age. They must not have kids of their own.
BTW, my dad was also 82nd Airborne in Korea.
I tell my kids, "It doesn't help to be smart if you don't have any common sense."
I bet your dad taught you some common sense. ;^)
Enough to last a lifetime, LOL!
Any post featuring the musings of one Mark Morford.
That is definitely near the top of my list.
lowbridge scamming the Nigerian scammers.
Freepers rule, DUers drool.
bttt.
Shooobetcha.
Previous scambaits linked on that thread. :-)
Hey there! Glad to see that you survived the holidays!
How did Thanksgiving and Christmas go? We are still cleaning. :^)
I'm not sure what the funniest thread was, but the most aggravating thread was the WAIT thread.
I didn't know that. Gives me something to shoot for.
Happy New Year to you!

Besides the obviously funny vanity threads like "Unnngh" (gets my vote!), there are some threads that start with a serious topic but bring out the best in FReeper humor...here are two that I bookmarked this past year:
Audio Clip of Dean Losing His Mind

Some of the photos are gone but still plenty of funny comments!
