What were the funniest FR threads of 2004?
Posted on 12/31/2004 8:04:44 PM PST by Charles Henrickson
One of the things I appreciate most about Free Republic is the humor. As JimRob says about FR posting: "And we always have fun doing it."
So what were the funniest FR threads of 2004? Here are a few to get us started:
Funniest Category or Type of Thread
The "Caption" threads. John Kerry, Howard Dean, and the rest gave us plenty of "photo opportunities." One of the funniest was this thread posted by dead: Bwaaaaahaaaaa! My new favorite Soccer Kerry picture just released by Reuters! (Unfortunately, old caption threads lose a lot of their pics as the news photos time out.)
Funniest Ongoing Series of Threads
The "DUmmie FUnnies," put together by PJ-Comix. Seeing the Democratic Underground "DUmmies" in despair is pure Schadenfreude. The most recent example (it's hard to pick just one) is the thread from yesterday: DUmmie FUnnies 12-30-04
Funniest Single Thread of the Year
You need tons click "co-ordinating" (Free Republic - The conservative click Guerilla), posted by Jim Robinson. Goofy Google translation of a German Spiegel article about FReeping.

Some of the "Zot" threads have been good. Some of the "Zot" threads have been bad. But one of those "Zot" threads should be put out of it's misery. And what's worst, it'll probably make a hundred thousands posts by the 3rd qtr of '05.
Happy New Year!

That's easy - the original
stuned beeber thread has got to be at the top of the list...

You're right. That "Would like freeper help" thread spawned some new FR catch phrases.

I've only been here a few months but the funniest thread I ever read on FR was one that was pulled. It was posted on Christmas Eve and was titled THE HIDDEN TRUTH. It was a strange post about religion, witches, satan, etc. Very hard to follow. Lots of great come backs to the post and then dighton comes back with this one:
In those days shall odd things be posted, with none grasping the significance thereof: neither men, nor mods, nor cats, nor their kittens.

One night when JR was in Texas the Mods got loose. Then very loose. The thread was hysterical but when I went to refresh at about post 300 the whole thread had been pulled. The Mods had zotted themselves? Anyone else remember this one, from maybe July or so? Any idea how we can get back to it?

That's easy - the original stuned beeber thread has got to be at the top of the list... For sure! I am laughing again after reviewing it via your link! This was better than the "all your bases are belong to us."

I think they are trying to max it out.
Maximum number of post to a thread is 65,535..... The Hobbit thread at the following link was the first to make it to the max.....

Do you mean funny, as in, peculiar? (I'm still waiting for a reply from him)

I guess funny, strange, as in morbid curiosity. There were some pretty funny comments, but I hope our young FRiend learned some manners.
