Hillary: New York Is My Home – For Now

Sen. Hillary Clinton hinted on Sunday that she's prepared to relocate out of New York state if necessary, while dismissing suggestions that she may be planning a move to Washington as "speculation."
"New York is my home right now," Clinton told celebrity interviewer Daphne Barak (emphasis added). "I love the weekends in my New York house: just spending time at home, strolling in the neighborhood, talking to the people around, relaxing."
On a possible White House run, Clinton said: "For now I am concentrating on being a good senator. I am also focusing on getting re-elected. Anything else is speculation."
The top Democrat also suggested that she no longer considers herself a dyed-in-the-wool New Yorker, referring to her fellow Empire Staters as "they."
"I love the spirit of New Yorkers," she told Barak. "They were determined to overcome the grief of September 11 and continue with life. I am very proud that I had a small part in this process."

I yield to no one in my disdain for Hillary. Even so, this story doesn't ring true.
Sure, Hillary is planning to run for President. But every candidate is "from" somewhere, other than Washington, DC. And Hillary also realizes that if she were defeated for re-election in 2006 that would be the end of her White House ambitions in 2008. So it would be very counter-productive to portray herself as anything other than a real New Yorker.
I've never heard of "celebrity interviewer Daphne Barak" but she doesn't strike me as the most credible news source. Bottom line: I doubt Hillary said she was "a New Yorker for now."

Distancing herself from the state she was elected to represent in the Senate. Obviously for broader appeal nationally to get some red state support. She's already claimed to be an evangelical Christian-next thing you know you she'll be telling us she's Bill's cousin. How come only Democrats can get away with this cheap electioneering?
