TERRI SCHINDLER SCHIAVO JANUARY 2005 Dailies: News Digest, Restating the Obvious & Thank Yous...
Free Republic & Various Sources ^ | December 30, 2004 | Floriduh Voter

Posted on 12/29/2004 7:16:22 AM PST by floriduh voter

The Terri Schindler Schiavo Daily Threads are created month to month as we watch local and national news regarding Terri and her family.

Since Terri's supporters are in every time zone, you may see something FIRST. Please share news with us that you don't see here already. Now, why would you want to do that? Terri's Daily Thread for September/October of 2004 was viewed over 15,000 times. Terri's November Daily Thread was viewed over 6,000 times. December's thread is over 3,000 views.

More and more good folks are finding out about Terri and that judicial tyranny would take her life, but for lots and lots of prayer and non-stop lobbying of relatives, friends, clergy, our leaders, the media, a passerby, a cashier - ANYONE who you feel comfortable chatting with.

Folks always want to know how can this be in America or on earth for that matter? Unfortunately, this is really happening to an innocent woman who just celebrated her 41st birthday. She's not the only one but she's the one with devoted parents and siblings who knows what's in Terri's heart. Terri has a strong will to live. That's apparent. It's been 14 years.

Besides, feeding tubes have been around practically since the Civil War. They are not high tech devices. Terri is "not hooked up to machines". Her feeding tube is the diameter of a piece of spaghetti.

Talkin' about Terri is the best way to lobby for her. It is a salespitch to save her life and subsequently, many lives. If you've never sold anything in your life, START NOW. START WITH TERRI.

See Terri's flash movies if you need more information. You can see for yourself that's she's interactive and follows the doctor's instructions.

NOTE: Terri's December Dailies are noted as a source above. There are lots of important links at the very top of that thread. If you missed Terri's Celebration of Life, you can click on it from there.

Gopher, you are becoming a world class FReeper! Way to go, looking for information that is not readily available in the MSM! I want to commend you because that is fine work. Please don't be too disappointed when I tell you that what you have discovered is not new information to some of us who really dug into Terri's case in 2003 before they pulled her tube out. It is documented on some terribly long, but informative threads, that you may have heard mentioned as the "monster" Terri threads (the 1st has 5400+ posts, the 2nd well over 2500, but I haven't checked lately). Still it is so awesome that you found the connection, too!

Yes! There is a HUGE coverup going on! We really need to get a grand jury to convene to look into Terri's case.

Here are links to the old threads:

The last one is a good one to bookmark also because it has so many links on it at the beginning of the thread.

I just gave some quick correction e-mails. That's nitpicking?! Most people usually appreciate it if I find certain errors in stuff that I am reading. Scoop1 has never been nice to me.

I never said I have a problem with The Empire Journael and I will post my e-mails to you right here if you like. In fact I said it was a great article. Do not attack me because you have some problem with your ego.

There is a nursing home in Largo, Florida where a senior didn't realize she had checked that she wanted to be starved to death and BEGGED FOR FOOD

That's exactly the kind of liberal actions that should make one NEVER sign those popular liberal "DNR" orders.

If anyone kept the professional description of the intense suffering and anguish someone goes through being dehydrated, to mention starved, it would be so informative to post it on the Terri threads.

Russesjujee---It is hell.

I think there's been a little mix-up going on concerning the Empire Journal and some well-meaning FReepers. More than one has replied about proof-reading and corrections (on different threads no less). Some of this may have been brought about by fatigue and stress.

What I hope we can all do is remember that we are trying to work together for Terri. Can we all just laugh this incident off as a "family" miscommunication? I don't think anyone meant real harm.

Then why don't I post all my e-mails to you and yours to me so that they can be the judge? You back off.

I can assure you that I have done nothing to deserve the ill treatment from Scoop1. Yes, there is a misunderstanding.

The Supreme Court rejected an appeal to restore a Florida law specifically designed to keep a severely brain-damaged woman, Terri Schiavo, alive on a feeding tube. Mrs Schiavo suffered brain damage in 1990; her husband argues that she has the right to die. Florida's governor, Jeb Bush, submits that the state has the authority to intervene in the case.

A federal judge delayed the execution in Connecticut (the first in New England since 1960) of Michael Ross, a serial killer who has indicated he wants to die. Arguments will now be heard as to whether Mr Ross is mentally capable of waiving his right to appeal.

Are we losing our minds or just getting lazy?

What the Mentally Handicapped Can Teach Us

According to Jean Vanier, Founder of L'Arche Communities

BARCELONA, Spain, JAN. 26, 2005 (Zenit.org).- Jean Vanier believes he has learned a lot from the poor and the mentally handicapped.

"The poor, the mentally handicapped reveal to me my own poverty and when I discover my poverty, I have greater need of God," the founder of L'Arche Communities told a retreat last weekend in the Seminary of Vic, in Barcelona.

Vanier founded L'Arche in 1964, which now comprises more than 100 homes, with workshops, in 30 countries. The homes offer the mentally handicapped a chance to work and live in community.

"When I started them," Vanier recalled, "I wanted to show the poor how important they were by living with them."

"Then I discovered that that was a way of the Gospel, because the poor make us live in truth," he said. "We are all poor and condemned to death; we are all fragile, we all want to show that we are better than others. Thus, we are always fleeing from what is most important about us and we really don't know who we are.

"Mentally handicapped people show me what my handicap is. Their violence reveals my violence. We begin to discover the truth about our inner self and then we also begin to discover the truth about God."

"The handicapped person who accepts his handicap shows me the difficulty I have in accepting my own weaknesses, in a similar way as people who are dying, who accept their death, reveal to those who are looking after them their own fear of dying," Vanier said.

"This is why L'Arche is a way to God -- a way of the poor, because to accept Jesus we must be poor," he continued. "He himself, who is the beauty of the Word of God, is a great poor one, but a great poor one who accepts the strength of God. There is no Christianity if we do not discover our poverty."

Vanier shared an observation about the recent Asian disaster.

"The collection of such a great amount of money for the tsunami victims shows us many things about solidarity, about the capacity of compassion of the human heart, but also about guilt," he contended.

"As we live so well and have so many things, we cannot watch on television people who have lost everything," the L'Arche Communities founder said. "There is in the human being a desire to help, which is also shown toward handicapped people, but at the same time the latter confront us with our desire to be rid of such different people.

"It is undeniable that the person who is different bothers us, and many handle this by putting such people in institutions or killing them before they are born."

To break the prejudices in regard to handicapped people, Vanier suggested that we "really meet them" and discover what they reveal to us about ourselves and about the presence of God in them.

Vanier recommends not spending too much time wondering about them or engaging in theological disputes, but to spend more time accepting and helping them.

"What is important is not to wonder why there is suffering, but to decide to alleviate it," he said. "What is important is not to wonder about death, but to support people who are dying."
