If the 2008 election were held today, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton would handily defeat three of the top Republicans being touted as possible candidates, a startling new survey by Fox News Opinion Dynamics shows.
In a race between Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and Clinton, the New York Democrat would win by 7 points, defeating Frist 40 percent to 33 percent, according to Fox Dynamics figures cited Sunday by Angus Reid Consultants.
Matched against New York Gov. George Pataki, Clinton's margin of victory drops by 1 point, but she'd still win 41 percent to 35 percent. The former first lady would even defeat Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, 46 percent to 35 percent.
Two of the most popular Republicans, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Arizona Sen. John McCain, were not included in the survey.
However, a Quinnipiac University survey released last week showed that Giuliani would defeat Clinton 45 percent to 43 percent if he were to run for her Senate seat in 2006.
The Fox Dynamics poll also showed that John Kerry would defeat Gov. Bush if Kerry were to run again in 2008, but by a smaller margin than Clinton - 45 percent to 37 percent.

the odds are that she and Richardson win it in 2008. I'm not sure what Richardson's prospects are for national elective office for the immediate future. The Peregrine scandal could be too much baggage for a VP candidate.

If I were a gambling man, I wouldn't be afraid to give her good odds. W's "borders policy" is begging for the terrorists to come through. The MSM plus the "We told you so" crowd will ensure a Demo sweep, a la LBJ in 1964. I just wonder why W's taken that policy.

Pull out the 2004 Electoral College maps again. Point to a state that Bush won that you think will be flipped to Hillary.

Hillary's popularity is limited to NY and CA and maybe a few other liberal states, but it's not enough for her to win. I tend to believe that nationwide, she causes more harm than good to the Democratic Party.
To: nj26
Seems a bit small. I would have expected her to do much better. Of course, she has only been doing low-key campaigning.
How will Hillary make use of the Patriot Act and Homeland Seurity departments?

"Pull out the 2004 Electoral College maps again. Point to a state that Bush won that you think will be flipped to Hillary."
Running against George W Bush in a two-way race, none if she runs as a liberal. She'd probably lose WI and MI.
Now, if she runs against illegal immigration against a Rove-backed conservative (e.g. Frist), she could retain WI and MI, and pick up NV, CO, NM, and FL. The illegals are overruning those states, and Prop 200 in AZ proves that an anti-illegals platform works with Latinos as well.
Now throw in a third party candidate if the GOP runs Giuliani. A social conservative who will draw off the pro-life and pro-gun vote. With conservatives splitting, she could hold her base, still gain ground against Giuliani on her anti-illegal platform, and maybe pick up AZ, NC, or VA.
Answer to all these problems... run a true conservative, and don't let her divide this party. And don't let Bush push through amnesty for illegals, or any tax increases.

I tend to agree with you on that. My only concern is that 2008 is a long time from now, and a lot can happen between now and then.

That's true. Let's just hope she keeps as unappealing as always. :-D

Hillary Clinton will be the next POTUS. There is little doubt in my mind. Socially liberal Republican women will vote for her in droves. Independent women will too.
Just prepare yourselves folks. It will happen.

Anyone who would put any stock in a poll for 2008 now needs to get a life. Too much "stuff" can go on between now and then that will make this poll totally meaningless.
