A middle school teacher in South Florida has been arrested for allegedly molesting a male student every week for a year in a supply closet before sending him back to class with a note excusing his absence.
Aaron Mohanlal is charged with 37 counts of lewd and lascivious behavior involving a 15-year-old boy, who recently told his parents about the alleged abuse.
Mohanlal, 37, is a teacher at New Renaissance Middle School in Miramar, Fla., and may have been involved with more than one child, according to police.
"There was such a network of kids around this guy that went beyond the student-teacher relationship," Police Capt. Bruce Keesling told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
Detectives are also probing claims the teacher gave other juveniles cell phones.
He was taken into custody Friday and was held on $370,000 bail. A Broward County Schools spokesman says if Mohanlal posts bail, he can return to work at the district, but without any contact with children until an internal investigation is completed.
Officials say the abuse started at the end of the alleged victim's seventh-grade year and lasted some 18 months.
The majority of the molestation is said to have occurred in the art room supply closet when the teacher was free for a work period.
Keesling told the paper several incidents took place at the teacher's house and in the teacher's car.
He said the teen, whose name was being withheld, informed his parents last week, as he sought to end the relationship with the teacher, though Mohanlal reportedly kept pursuing the boy.
The family has hired an attorney, Diana Santa Maria, who said the family is "extremely distraught" and angry about the events, but is trying to give the boy the support he needs to recover.
"They feel betrayed by the obvious negligence of the school board, in which they placed their trust," Santa Maria told the Sun-Sentinel. "The administration and teachers are responsible for the safety and security of children."
Mohanlal has been working for the Broward School District since August 2001, and has no prior criminal history.
"I think parents need to withhold judgment until all of the facts are known," district spokesman Joe Donzelli said. "I'd urge people to let the process work itself out to find out exactly what took place and not make the assumption that everything this child said happened."
Castration seems a very good idea for scum like this -- neuter them
Not at all. I just think imprisoning the offender is more to the point than shaking down the public school system for some nice green consolation prize.
Actually, pedophilia is when an adult is sexually attracted to pre-pubescent children, before adolescence, and this boy is apparently now 15. That is classic pederasty, for which homosexuals are well known. In fact, before the word "homosexual" was invented in the latter half of the 19th century for propaganda purposes, men attracted to other men (and usually boys) were generally called sodomites and pederasts. Homosexuals are widely known to be attracted to young teenagers.
If you haven't, you should check out "The Pink Swastika" (I used to have a link to a site that has the entire book online; try a google search). Very well researched book about the history of Nazism and its roots in homosexuality among other things.
Thank you for making this clear. I will check this resource as well.
I would like to see the words used to define these acts of perversion to be as shocking and horrific as the crimes committed on these children. It seems as though molestation has become such a run of the mill label now.
The school boards primary concern should be children's safety -not homosexual advocacy. School boards should worry less about pushing the pro-gay diversity homosexual agenda in sex 'education' and worry more about sexual predator prevention education.
Officials say the abuse started at the end of the alleged victim's seventh-grade year and lasted some 18 months.
15 - 1 1/2 = 13 1/2
So this could have been going on since the boy was 13. If the homo lobby succeeds in lowering the age of consent laws this guy could get off Scott free under those circumstances.
I agree with your thought. "Molesting" actually can mean, according to the dictionary, general bothering.
Child rape and child sex abuse might be a better way to describe the horrible acts.
This boy is likely ruined for life.
Someone would have to be an ammoral sociopath NOT to bring a lawsuit. It is the only thing these Dems understand and the only thing that might change whatever allowed this to happen.
It will be a miracle if he isn't doing the same to young boys ten years from now.
Since a very high proportion of homosexuals were molested/sexually abused when children or adolescents, unfortunately this is likely.
I hope his parents contact an organization who has experience with helping such victims.
So here you go.
YOU WIN. They should SUE the school system and get lots and lots of money. If it hurts all the other kids, and the tax payers, and the school, too bad. At least they got some $money$ out of it! There. Are you happy now?
Indeed. That would be the right age for 7th grade.
If the homo lobby succeeds in lowering the age of consent laws this guy could get off Scott free under those circumstances.
Their 1972 platform at the state level, item 7 states:
Repeal of all laws governing the age of sexual consent. The 1987, 1993 and 2000 platforms removed this item from their platform, but added hate crime, right to marry, adoption and youth issues (think GLSEN). Fortunately, I believe there is still too much of a backlash from any attempt to lower the age of consent laws.
"They feel betrayed by the obvious negligence of the school board, in which they placed their trust,"
Boy if that isn't a "We're gonna sue the _ _ _ _! out of the school distict seed, I don't know what is.
Perhaps it's the GAYCLU and the gay activists who have betrayed us all?
That's what I was thinking - no mention of the teacher's orientation. Guess it will never be a "Movie of the week."
37 year old rapist.
37 counts
$370,000 bail...
Does anyone doubt how this particular teacher voted in November?
"The majority of the molestation is said to have occurred in the art room supply closet when the teacher was free for a work period."
What a surprise. /sarcasm
No I really want to understand the mindset of a person that would allow this kind of thing to continue. This kneejerk anti litigation mindset intrigues me. When your kids life has been possibly destroyed by a teachers action and a school's improper supervision and or inaction I consider that real damage. It won't change until they get hit in the pocketbook.
And I had a very close associate who was molested while he was a teenager. He sued. He got money. Did it help him? Nope. Know what I think would have helped him? Seeing that priest go to JAIL.
... But yeah, that money seemed to make his parents feel better. I guess that's what matters, right?
