This is an edited repost of an article I wrote on last year's anniversary of Clinton's impeachment.
First, an excerpt from a report from that most excellent day six years ago:
A while later the first article of impeachment passed the House ! Being that we had spread out along the avenue by that time, we sought each other out to cheer the good news. We then gathered at the Swamp to inform the WH press corps that "The Constitution lives !" and that it was "a great day to be an American !"
During the next hour or so the remaining three articles were voted on. Article three was the only other one to pass. We rejoiced that the President was being called to account for perjury before a Federal grand jury and for obstructing justice. Much to their appreciation, we took care to inform the police and press as the results were announced.
A special treat today was the presence of CNN's Wolf Blitzer. Our feelings of contempt for Mr. Blitzer have increased since the day he and CNN went along with Presidential spokesman Joe Lockhart's suggestion that CNN break away from live coverage of his briefing when the subject matter got embarrassing for the White House. Mr. Blitzer caught heavy flak from Freepers at irregular intervals throughout our time there. We freeped him with calls such as "Lies of omission are still lies !", "What did Joe Lockhart tell you to say today ?", and when ABC's Sam Donaldson arrived at the swamp, "Hey Sam ! Why don't you show Wolf how a real reporter does it !"
The coup de grace was supplied by DoctorRaoul who unfurled a three foot squar (sic) banner about Mr.Blitzer that was hilariously on target. I'll leave it to him to describe it further.
Further down the thread, Doctor Raoul reported on his banner (CORRECTED FOR TYPOS):
For those of you curious about what upset Wolfie:
A 4 foot by 4 foot hot pink banner said;
CNN CAMERAMAN
Pan Down and Show
Lockhart's Arm Up
Wolf Blitzer's Butt
Working His Jaw
He stood there mad as hell and didn't know whether to you know what or go blind.
Begin edited repost:
Congratulations! It was six years ago today the House of Representatives impeached President William Jefferson Clinton for perjury and obstruction of justice.
Those brave representatives survived an all-out war of political brinksmanship which included public threats of retaliation and private threats to bring down the government if Clinton was impeached.
James Carville threatened Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr with "kneecapping;" Alec Baldwin called for the murder of House Judiciary Committee Chairman Henry Hyde; George Stephanopoulos passed along the threat to employ the "Ellen Romesch defense"--a public blackmailing of Congress; Hillary Clinton said on the Today Show that those plotting against her husband "would have alot to answer for" when this was done; Paula Jones was called "trailer trash" and worse for simply seeking justice and an apology; Linda Tripp had her reputation destroyed by a conspiracy of Clinton administration officials and media operatives. Even Monica Lewinsky feared for her life and kept the infamous blue dress stained with presidue for insurance.
Thank God that people like Linda Tripp stood tall and refused to back down in their determination to see that a president of the United States could not commit felonies in office with impunity.
And thank God for people like Jim Robinson, Matt Drudge, Bob Barr, Gary Aldrich, Alan Keyes, Larry Klayman, Lucianne Goldberg, Billy Dale and all the rest who spoke at, organized and attended Free Republic's nationally televised rally supporting Clinton's impeachment on October 31, 1998.
You done good! Impeachment is forever. You can be proud that in America's hour of need, you answered the call to preserve protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.
Not only did Gore defer to Clinton. Have you noticed that all the Bushes seems to gush with praise and giddiness when they are in the "presence" of a Clinton?
As well they should. In the South, we call that "killing 'em with kindness."
It's a devastatingly effective political strategy that the hate-filled Left can't manage to emulate.
I remember the day well!
This has gone on too long
it is clear Kenneth Starr's to blame
My impeachment's no badge of shame
They made up all those stories
So it's time to say
every right wing jerk
Just let me
get back to work
They hate me
you see everyone's been plotting to be hurting my name
So my impeachment is no badge of shame
They are just sore losers
So I say
every right wing jerk
Let me
get back to work
I wish
that the situation they'd not inflame
My impeachment's no badge of shame
They are nuts
So I say
each right wing jerk
Just let me
go get back to work
I know the plans they had
bloodless coup was their real aim
My impeachment's no badge of shame
It was very illegal
So I must say
each right wing jerk
Just let me
get back to work
We all know that
evil GOP had played out their game
My impeachment's no badge of shame
I hate them
So I say
each right wing jerk
Just let me
go get back to work
You must hear all of the truth I give as I make my claim
My impeachment's no badge of shame
And I swear I will get them
(fade out)
Happy impeachment day to you! Thanks goes out to you, ohter Freepers who gave all and all the House Managers that worked so hard, especially Bob Barr. Impeachment truly is forever!
Matchett PI and I headed north to attend this Impeachment Rally---I recall heading to the Hotel, which became headquarters for like minded folks.
We met Matt Drudge that night--
Towards evening we went out to the curbside and cheered loudly for those who were arriving by car--!!
We were not "official" Freepers at that time--however--we signed up thereafter---
What a ride----!
Yes, it is.......
Thanks for posting the list of who voted for or against impeachment in the Senate. The name that stood out (again) is Arlen Specter. I wished we could get rid of him. And now he most likely will be promoted to head of the judiciary? What a disaster!
The mighty Viking Kitties strike again!
Swooping down for their lair in Valhalla to strike fear and terror in the hearts of trolls everywhere.
Obviously, the Clinton years were the saddest of times
"Bill Clinton may not be the worst president we've ever had, BUT I believe he's the worst man we've ever had as president."
G. Will
Thanks!
Yes, and his pension revoked to include SS protection. Trent the (stent lott) was a spineless coward and let the POS slide. I have to laugh when the Dems turned on (lottanothin) for the remarks made concerning Strom Thurmond. I guess (lott the fool) thought he had bought himself a demo-emer-card for protection. Ha Ha.
Thanks for the memories!
Thanx for the reply..don't take our remarks so personally..you post, you become prey for ascerbic humuor..thats all..having said that, lets recall that Buuba admitted to perjury and intentionally interfering with justice...that was the tip of the iceburg with this dickhead..he's so dirty that his underwear run away from him...and the Senate let him walk....who can be happy about that..let's remember Nixon was kneecapped by the media and continues to take flak while Bubba basks in MSM glory...there is nothing momentous about Bubba's presidency or the man...he is a sociopathic con man who conned the country not once but twice and then gave you the finger when he was caught with his fly down...he's no friend of the USA
Thanks for reminding us of this important anniversary!
It was sooo much fun in those days to catch Clinton! and he never failed us his depth of ridiculousness and in being such an easy target.
billies picture with the banner headline,
