On Hannity and Combs, Sean responded to the liberals keeping the declaration of independence out of the schools, by calling for parents to take thier kids out of government schools. Home school bump.
Eliminate the mafia middleman. Just eliminate all compulsory education and taxes for education.
No one has a right to the fruits of another's labor.
"Supply and Demand" usually implies that those doing the demanding do all the paying.
What are taxes? If I have a choice for a Christian school, shouldn't other religions be allowed? What about Jewish or Catholic schools?
Better to just scrap the whole compulsory attendance/taxation scheme.

Would you like to explain how you justify that statement to our troops. How do you justify that statement to a family who has lost a loved one- Lost someone who has been out there protecting this idea of AMERICA- this doctrine of ours?
Some of the people in lowest tax bracket in this country are those who have worn the uniform of the United States military. Many of our veterans have died penniless.

In a voluntary system you can hire Christian, Jewish, Islamic, or atheist teachers - your choice. Same for your fellow citizens.

I was specifically talking about the voucher system. I too think that the government needs to get out of schooling. But since I was talking about a voucher system, that would be, in effect, parents taking their money back from the government and 'spending' it on the school of their choice. Thus my supply and demand statement.

It is their money. Let them educate their children the way they want to.
Duracell has made a lousey point. The private sector is always better than government at whatever industry it tries, other than national defense. If the wiccans want to home school their children, then let them. It is their money and their kids. If they are wiccans they are already trying to inculcate the children with their world view.
First let me comment that the quote you use in your response to me was not made by me, but from another poster that I was quoting and you took it totally out of context. We were discussing home sale listings and reference to how many people mention "quality" of schools in said listings.
With that said, I resent your implication that I am some lesser Christian than you are because my daughter attends public school. I grew up in NYC, so I know all about city living, and 20+ years living in Delaware gave me all kinds of experience with city, suburbs and rural living....which is why we live in very rural Virginia. Do not preach to me.
Your cookie cutter scenario of public schools may be your experience, but it is not mine. I spent 12 years in Catholic schools and if I had gotten even 1/4 of the individualized attention my daughter receives in public school when I was in elementary school, I would have done far better in later grades.
I do not expect my daughter to learn about religion in school, that is my job because I am not sending her to a religious school. I want her to learn the basics and if I determine something is over the line in what she is learning, the school will be hearing from me. It's very simple.

Again the mere fact that you are here speaking freely in an open forum, and if you are American- shows that you enjoy the fruits of many people's labor.
Every right you have in this country is protected by the labor of our military- and they do not make a whole lot of money doing it.
It is a labor of love for most- and I intend to pay back into the system that many of them have died to protect and provide to us. The ability for all citizens to get a decent education, no matter how much money they have, is a huge part of what America stands for.
I would say fine, except (and there's always an except) that in large cities the public schools have always served as a family's first toe-hold into American culture. So the melting pots becomes a little less melty. And the other thing is -- the values some of these schools may teach may not only be non-American, but downright anti-American. And I'm not talking about the kind of hyperbole indulged in on this board sometimes with "socialist" anti-American, I mean, "death to the great satan" anti-American.
The NEA is the nation's largest organized lobbying force in Washington and for years has been the influence behind many school programs unknown to most parents. An excellent book to read on this subject is called NEA: The Trojan Horse.
My wife and I homeschool 3 kids at home. It has been remarkable to watch their growth and progress and their unfurling their minds like a beautiful flower. Day by day by day. But always under our watchful eye. They converse,not just with kids their age, but with people of all ages. It has been an education for my wife and me. It was the best decision we ever made. They would have been completely different people if they had been indoctrinated by politically correct government reeducation camps. Now they know the basics and as they move to college they know it is a good thing to ask questions, even of your professors and teachers without apprehension. Luckily we have given them a love to learn things. We have exploited their natural curiosity about every subject. We are fundamenal Bible believing Christians, but we went into great depth to explain the theory of evolution. The oldest just finished calculus and the 14 year old has finished Algebra II and Geomentry and Trigenometry. They all play 3 or 3 musical instruments. They are very remarkable people. They are people who I feel we can hand off the country to in 30 years and continue leadership in this country that will uphold the fundamental tenents of freedom, liberty, and happiness. I do not see the products of the public schools doing that. They are trying to turn this great ship away from our heritage as a nation.

The teachers in this country are not the problem, but they are coopted by a national union which sets standards and direction. Look-say, outcome based education, etc. The fish is rotting from the head. Most school teacher in Texas seem to agree with this. I think the teachers need to take bach their union with conservative leadership and right the sinking ship. They can do it, but it would require a massive rebellion at the foot soldier level.
