Teen Says He Lost Virginity At 9
CLEVELAND -- Research shows 16 percent of girls and 20 percent of boys have engaged in sexual intercourse by the time they reach their 14th birthday. For some fourth- and fifth-graders, sex is the topic of school lunch room conversations almost daily.
In a special report, NewsChannel5's Deb Lee explored the troubling statistics.
Lee talked with a 15-year-old Cleveland-area girl who is enrolled at the Pepper Pike Alcohol Treatment Center for kids about her experiences with alcohol and sex.
The teen said kids are having sex as young as 11 and 12 years old. She added that it happens at house parties in Cleveland and surrounding suburbs, where the liquor flows so freely and girls sometimes black out.
I know at least six or seven girls that are my good friends that got raped the first time they ever had sex, she said. That's how they lost their virginity by getting raped at a party while they were under the influence.
Another teen, who will be called Jay, also knows about the parties. He's also from the Cleveland area and was a resident at the treatment center. Jay, who is 18 now, said he had sex at an early age, too.
"I lost my virginity when I was 9 years old," he said. "Most of the time, it's us boys pressuring the girls to do this, do that. But sometimes it's not all our fault. Sometimes girls be dressing all trashy... you see them out in the street with their little short skirts and tank tops and stuff."
Another teen says TV glorifies sex.
"They're all drinking and getting drunk and everything and the rappers are talking about doing drugs and having sex with people and all that," a teen said.
Dr. Slyvia Rimm, an area expert on child psychology, has interviewed hundreds of children around the country for a book on habits of middle schoolers.
Lee said she discovered that second-, third- and fourth-graders are talking about sex.
"The oral sex, even a generation ago, wasn't common in high school and now is common as early as 8th grade and even common in high school and taken lightly, I'm sorry to say, in our former president's words," Rimm said.
Lee reported that former President Bill Clintons statement: I did not have sex with that woman... Miss Lewinsky," -- has had an impact.
She said teens do not think oral sex counts as sex.
"I think there can be real psychological harm when kids are that young Rimm said.
Many teens are choosing abstinence and sobriety. In fact, the 15-year-old in the story sought help through treatment and is now beginning a new life, in a new community, at a new school.
"I'm not going to have the peer pressure, and I'm gonna be able to do what I need to do to help myself," she said.
Nope can't hand out smokes for free cause the tax money from the smoke sells is needed to buy the condoms
THEN she dropped the bomb...she said Bill Clinton was reprehensible for his actions and what he forced parents to talk to their kids about at much too early of an age for some.
She said some of the older kids she speaks with think that oral sex is ok, and not really sex at all and that "we have Bill Clinton to thank for that".
Well you would have thought I had died and gone to heaven! I blurted out loudly that I despised him for that too, and then everybody started looking at each other and my wife was giving me the "you've gone too far for this crowd" look...but all of these parents were nodding agreement and vocalizing approval. I thought there would at least be a few klinton lovers in the crowd that would get pithy, but this was definately not their night...if they were there they stayed silent.
Afterward, walking out I commented to my wife that I thought that klinton part of the lecture went rather well, and she almost fell on the floor laughing.
>> That's how they lost their virginity by getting raped at a party while they were under the influence.
I knew many 14 y/o having sex at parties.
Once I was going to have a pot party at my place, and I invited some friends over. Their mom asked if my parents were home and I said they would be home in an hour. So she brings her (teenage) kids and waits with them. When it was obvious I was lying (my parents were gone for the weekend) she collected up her teenagers and left. A very smart woman.
The Clinton Legacy: 8th graders having sex.
Did you write that for me? I could have sworn I wrote that.
Sounds more like inner city kids.
9 year olds?
That's their story and they're sticking to it.
Remember, this is the county, and these are the precincts, that cannot vote correctly.
They can punch each other, and can punch an underage girl, but they can't punch a little hole in a ballot.
My grandmother got married at 14.
You can't really blame this on Clinton, he just justified the trend. My son was in middle school 10 years ago and oral sex was prevalent in the middle school then. We had a pair of teachers at the school who held co-ed slumber parties and when I complained to another parent, the answer was that the couple were teachers and knew what they were doing. The couples answer was that kids will be kids, they are just having fun and it's better that they do it at home. Of course the teachers' oldest son was arrested by the Feds for running an across border drug ring and the parents were named unindicted co-conspirators, and were allowed to keep their jobs.
That was me, uncool and shunned. At times it was hard but boy am I glad now. It makes it easier to tell the kids that it is doable.
If we could do it they can do it.
So far so good.
I think it is easier for the kids nowadays to remain chaste because it is more acceptable.
Sounds like South Park last night - where Paris Hilton opened a store for little girls called "Stupid Selfish Whores" In the episode, all the girls wanted to be stupid, selfish whores and were proud of it. The parenst gave in becasue that was what was "in" at the time. Scary that it reflected reality.
I broke up with him...
Today, young men think that they if the treat girls with respect they will get dumped.
You're not helping! /sarcasm
Rewrite as follows: Research shows 16 percent of girls and 20 percent of boys claim to have have engaged in sexual intercourse by the time they reach their 14th birthday.
Great commentary addresses the "where were the parents?" threads.

Ciao
I was at a party the other night and I said, " I ain't never seen anything like this before. There was my girlfriend and she was passed out on the floor."
Oh well, my mama told me not to come.
This is the true Clinton Legacy is this. That also depends on the meaning of what 'is' is.
Really has nothing to do with Clinton. I was in middle school pre-Bill Clinton and there was the same philosophy then too. Has more to do with the fact that a girl can't get pregnant from oral sex. The biggest fear kids have about sex is pregnancy, and this is seen as an outlet without that worry. I agree that teenage pregnancy is a major concern, but the fact that STDs can be spread through oral sex is a concept that should really be taught as well.
