Lose weight and quit smoking - all by popping a single "superpill." That science fiction-like possibility could become a reality soon - thanks to an amazing new experimental drug. A third of the people taking the drug lost at least 10% of their body weight and were able to keep it off for two years. That's longer than for any diet drug on the market, new research showed.

I wonder how many vital organs this pill destroys in the process of making you healthy.

Then they'll make billions more, with drugs to cure the side effects---don't you see the beauty of it?

The bad effects of any drug are not really known until they've been on the market for at least 5 years (take from my wife, an RN who has worked in the insurance industry for over a decade now).

I wonder if it works like a nicotine patch? If so, it won't work for me! I been smoking since I was 5 years old and I'm now 52! I told my wife I'll probably be pushing up daisies before I get off my smokes! But, if this don't work like a nicotine patch, it might be worth it for me since I have tried so many pills, patches and home remedies to quit, but never succeeded.
And it probably does have a lot of side effects!

These drugs today all have such horrible side effects you're much better off forgetting them totally!!! Do it yourself w/out drugs...if that's not possible...then live with it. You'll probably live longer.

From the article following the posted one, still about the 'miracle pill': "I am very wary of all drugs," said Crisallo, 23, a social smoker from Staten Island who braved yesterday's chilly temperatures for a quick drag (off of his cigarette). Burning a plant or plant metabolic by-product and inhaling the smoke is one of the most ancient ways of ingesting a drug, but don't tell the boy that and mess up his fantasy.

The Patch did not work for me either.
Neither did the gum or the drugs, but I'll tell you what did.
Partly what the experts tell you not to do.
Stop smoking when your schedule it totally screwed up (I did while on vacation for 7 days) and get a can of Skoal Long Cut.
By the end of a week you will still be getting nicotine, but your gums will be killing you so you will use it less and less. Plus finding a good place to spit is actually more of a hassle than finding a place to smoke.
I chewed for a month or so and hated it, but I broke the habit of smoking (not nicotine though).
Then I started on the gum (which worked this time because the habit was nicotine between my gums and lip) and then I was done.
Worth a shot if you want to quit, if not: smoke'em if you got'em

It supposedly works by blocking the natural chemicals to whose receptors cannabis binds. Think of it as an anti-pot that gives you the anti-munchies. Which may not go over well in certain lib and "Libertarian" circles. What I seen released on it in articles the past 6 months looks very promising; although obviously, the final fine print will need to be read carefully.

I chewed for a month or so and hated it, but I broke the habit of smoking (not nicotine though). Should had mentioned also that I chewed skoal, copenhagen and other chewing tobaccos as well along with my smoking, but I haven't chewed for quite sometime now, but I reckon I'll die with smoking, and it will be my choice, not the tobacco companies problems!

I smoked for forty-one years. Im sorry to get heavy, but I quit smoking a few months before I was diagnosed with lung cancer so I didnt have the health issues to deal with.
I used a Nicotral inhaler, and I decided cigarettes were like an old girl friend who I didnt love anymore, and she sure as hell didnt love me anymore. So when I saw someone smoking it was like seeing an old girl friend who I didnt care about anymore.
The inhaler helped, but bottom line I just played a little trick myself.
