With the nominations of Condoleezza Rice at State, Porter Goss at CIA, Donald Rumsfeld (or an equally tough replacement) at Defense and Stephen Hadley at NSC, the president has created an all-Patton foreign and defense team. Moreover, he has a team that understands that among the necessary targets of their firepower must be, not only our foreign enemies, but also the slouching, sly, insubordinate bureaucrats under their chain of command.

This is the trifecta that President Bush has chosen to compete in: Fight our foreign enemies, stand by the convictions he expressed in the election and appoint smart people who are loyal to him in the agencies. This means war to the political death all winter, spring and summer in Washington. If George W. Bush gets his nominees through and is still standing tall in August, we may be in for an historic presidency. But every yard gained on Pennsylvania Avenue will have been taken under heavy fire from all five columns. More great lines from a great article!

That article was written with a disturbing amount of foresight and veracity. Let's hope the President succeeds.

Better to have people who are loyal and will carry out orders than someone (Tenet i.e.) who will try to undercut you at every turn.
To: CDB
I never have cared much for Tony on TV but his writing carries a candid vulgarity that is appropriate to the topic!
I think I'll subscribe to his future columns.

Tony Blankley "gets it"!! I hope this puts all who would undermine the President and his agenda ON NOTICE!! Too bad some of the other "domestic insurgents" can only be voted out every few years - we need a major DEFRAG in some of the darker corners and bureaus in DC, IMHO!!

Notice how the press decries the current and upcoming house-sweeping and rodent elimination expected at CIA, Defense, State, Education? If I were a well planted clintoon hack, I would be looking for other work.

This article reminds me of the old Brit show (Yes, Minister?), where the new Minister of ? is headed off every time he tries to do anything by a cunning old entrenched Civil Servant named Basil, who shows him how it can't be done.

These four bureaucracies are manned by the most heartless Beltway warriors and led by veteran, tribal war lords. Each of these bureaucracies have many trophies of prior Washington wars:
One word....Afghanistan.

With the winter cleaning well underway...
Spring cleaning the state department or just a good flushing should be planned.. Uncle Sam just shaveing in that disgusting proverbial bathroom is health threatening. A good cleaning is in order. Or maybe a good re-modeling.. Hoo_Wee that place is a pit. While "they" are at it the FCC could use some attention too.. Colin Powells lazy son pretty much wrecked that place's credebilty.. G. Gordon Liddy as head could go through there like a weed-wacker in marijuana patch.. The POT-heads in the MSM could be sobered up and put to work with their licenses on the line.. Actually the parents companys of the MSM would prolly just do their OWN house cleaning..

One of the biggest bureaucratic hassles that, of course, isn't reported in the MSM is that State, CIA, etc. used the 8 years of Clinton to fill their ranks with like-minded recruits. Look at the ideological predispostion at our colleges and universities. Rice will have a bigger problem than Goss will, because CIA can dispose of leakers through polygraphs and a rigorous counter-espionage effort--al a James Angleton.
