Working on Speech on Illegal Immigration

Posted on 11/07/2004 9:53:36 PM PST by AVNevis

I am working on creating a speech on illegal immigration for a High School Speech contest in the next few weeks. Any good evidence or interesting tidbits with facts to back them up would be appreciated.

Thanks

Ask me about illegal aliens.

(Ummmmm...actually, please don't: I may rant!)

Ask the rhetorical question: whom do we want as fellow citizens? Shouldn't the choice be intelligent, where we have any room to offer our opinions? I'd maintain that diversity is something to manage rather than encourage. Once that's out of the way, then we can establish the fact that we're Anglo-Saxon if not racially then culturally. Why divide ourselves further, where immigrants are uninterested in adopting the majority of our norms?

About all I can add are some odd perspectives from both sides of the Rio Grande.

My work relates to a U.S. based company with a factory in Mexico involved in the maquiladora program. And until recently, my wife worked for many years on the west coast doing HR work for a auto detailing company that hires illegals for low-skill, low-pay jobs. Hence, the detailing compnay has no quams about hiring illegals.

Now, somewhere in your speech or when doing research for it, you are bound to come across the argument that "at least illegals pay income taxes". My wife would tell you flat out that they do not. Her experience is thus: When illiegals applied for jobs, they would elect to have no taxes witheld from their paychecks. They would also present a forged Social Security card with a bogus SS number. Sometimes, the card was forged, but the SS number was real, albeit stolen.

Some months later, the company would be informed that the SS number they were given was bogus. HR would then contact the employee to correct this. By then, the employee would either move onto another employer or present yet another bogus card and number, thus repeating the process a few months later. Meanwhile, they earned an income and no federal or state income tax was deducted. Typically, the employee would quit before tax time.

In defense of an employer who can only offer low-skill, low-pay jobs, one might say that no one but illegal aliens would take jobs like these, so "they fill a needed void". This isn't accurate. When the economy started to tank in 2000, my wife started to receive resumes from degreed professionals. Even before then, other non-aliens would often look for a supplemental job to make a few extra dollars. Unfortunately, the illegals seem to network very well and have inside information as to when a job would open up. They would be first in line with a job application before the employer could even put out a help wanted ad. In this case, there was no "void" that could only be filled by illgal aliens. They shut out non-aliens by keeping a supply of willing illegals ready for an unethical employer.

On the other side of the coin (or the border in this case), some have sympathy (libs especially) for illegals due to a lack of jobs in Mexico. But how many people in the U.S. know that Mexico's government is really socialist? All the utilities are state controlled and are not surprisingly unreliable and over priced. How many jobs could be created by privatizing those markets? Vincente Fox or not, the government is still crooked there and syphons money everywhere it can. Just like a hard core socialist country, anything of worth is state owned and their socialized healthcare is a joke... and a sad one at that.

One can feel sympathetic toward people escaping a country like that, but I can't feel sympathetic toward anyone who would leave his country rather than stay and try to make a change. At least the Mexican people that my employer employs stay in Mexico while earning decent wages.

Many illegals come here for low paying jobs, then smuggle their wives and children over and send them right to the welfare office, WIC, and to sign up for free medical card and section 8 housing. Not to mention the strain on public schools, hopitals, and local services such as water, garbage pick up, and electricity, roadway wear and tear, and the traffic accidents they cause.

Some are criminals that come back across time after time and our prison population is expensive and over crowded. Aside from that, any group of terrorist can leave a highway in Mexico and drive nuclear weapons across land right into a major city.

Mexicans are not the only illegals crossing the Southern and Northern borders, they come from all over the world for American freebies.

Fellow Californian, you must already know about the many hospital emergency rooms that have been forced to close due to the financial strain of treating the "uninsured", a large percentage of them illegal aliens. Illegal aliens use our emergency rooms like we use doctor's offices. This drives the costs of medical care up for the rest of us, and many will have to travel further to reach an emergency room.

Taxpayers are being asked to build new schools and hire new teachers to educate the millions of children of illegal aliens here. The law states that we must educate the children, but no one ever anticipated the great numbers that would be sneaking over our porous borders. No one dreamed of the costs that this law would incur.

By using false documents, illegal aliens are overwhelming our welfare services and children's aid services. This is against the law, but that law has rarely been enforced.

Illegal aliens undercut many construction and service industries by working for less than American workers can. This has caused loss of American jobs. The employers who hire illegal aliens do not provide medical insurance plans for them, and often pay the workers in cash. This in turn allows the illegal aliens to avoid paying income taxes like the rest of us do, yet they are the biggest users of social services.

Here in California the numbers of illegal aliens are so overwhelming that the police have been instructed to ignore immigration status, yet when the ones who commit crimes are caught and go to prison, we are the ones paying the bills.

Our politicians are all but ignoring the existing immigration and border laws. They pander for the hispanic vote, and think that if American immigration laws are actually enforced they will lose the hispanic vote. Crazy, huh?

To hear some of the illegal alien apologists talk you would think that this country would fall apart if it wasn't for illegal aliens. This is a lie. America got along quite well prior to the invasion, and we didn't have as many unwanted bills to pay.

A question to ponder would be why aren't these expenses being paid by the government of Mexico? These are their millions of citizens, not ours.

Become familiar with immigration law - Title 8, Section 12 USC. Use data from the census bureau. A lot of good information can be obtained from FAIR, CIS, and Numbers USA. Use their links.

By surrounding yourself with law and figures obtained from government websites you won't leave yourself open to criticism.

Don't forget to look into the Ford Foundation's evil history of promoting divisiveness and non-assimilation.

At the Ford Foundation ethnicity is always job 1

Worthy read for everyone concerning traitors behind the scenes.

I doubt very seriously if any of the highschool students are interested in social security as that subject seems so many years away. However, one interesting tidbit about the Totalization with Mexico that will be submitted to Congress within the next year is that all of the American highschool students will have to work 10 years to be eligible for social security benefits and a Mexican illegal will have to work only 18 months to be eligible.

Here's the legal research you need for TITLE 8 re aliens.

TITLE 8 > CHAPTER 14 > SUBCHAPTER I > § 1611

§ 1611. Aliens who are not qualified aliens ineligible for Federal public benefits

Click to see other threads related to illegal aliens in America

AV, clicking this button does a search for all articles on FR indexed to the keyword 'aliens'. You will receive a list of every article the anti-illegal immigration community on FR has posted. This will give you plenty of research on what's happening.

Several of us (myself, SandRat, JackelopeBreeder, and Spiff) have personal experience with the very real day-to-day impact of 1000 people per day crossing through our neighborhoods...please feel free to contact me if you want input from that aspect, ok? I'm sure the others wouldn't mind too terribly much helping you out!

I personally like this place for news/updates on the border scene:

American Patrol

These PACs are dedicated to immigration reduction/border control and ought to have some good information:

TeamAmericaPAC
Federation for American Immigration Reform
Center for Immigration Studies

If you have the time, American Immigration Control Foundation publishes books on the subject--I personally recommend America Balkanized by Dr. Brent Nelson. He's slightly scary, but the book is excellent, very scholarly, very high-quality. It was written in 1994, but his analysis still holds and it is very interesting to read ten years later light of the fact that some of the things he hints at (i.e., Mex-meddling in U.S. politics, orthodox Islam and its lack of distinction between religion and politics and the effect that might have on the United States what with the growing Muslim immigration) are now coming true. If you order it through their site, it's just $6.00.

AICF is an offshoot, I believe of Americans for Immigration Control.

Illegal aliens pose a threat to this country on several levels:
*Economic (cost of health care; take away jobs from Americans; frequent refusal to learn English, thus demanding translators; etc.)
*Environmental (we are using up non-renewable resources at a faster rate than than developing countries and thus they would add to this problem, etc.)
*Overpopulation -- we already have too many people and more than enough criminals; they would further lower our quality of life
*They lower the gene pool -- though you might not want to go into this issue. Illegal aliens are not made up of the best and the brightest.
*A security problem and an increase in crime -- they help terrorists infiltrate this country and build cells (one of the Beltway snipers, for example, was an illegal aliens as have been other terrorists). In Northern Virginia and other parts of the country, illegal aliens have formed violent gangs that terrorize innocent people
*Any nation who wants to survive and keep its identity has to have closed borders.

One of the often overlooked problems of illegal aliens is the health of the nation. Many of these people bring desease and their low quality of life breeds even more. These kind of people need more health care than those that have maintained a higher quality of life.

It not only puts us at risk, but drains our health resources as we take care of all these sick and needy people.

Speaking of which, check The Miami Herald. They had a really good article today on the possibility that the average life span could fall this century.
