I am working on creating a speech on illegal immigration for a High School Speech contest in the next few weeks. Any good evidence or interesting tidbits with facts to back them up would be appreciated.
Thanks
Kind of a hot topic where you are, huh? Check out plenty of the posts on FR. Run a serch. Do you have an outline yet?
Michelle Malkin has worked this topic over.
Check out her website, her blog, her articles, her book
If you play to the security issue of uncontrolled borders, you should be able to approach the subject of border control without getting your head taken off by any pro immigration people in your audience.
Site the number of people aprehended trying to cross the board each day and make a link to the possibility that the thousands more getting through could very likely include terrorists.
And when giving your speech, remember the basics of the five part essay.
1. Introduction and statement of controlling idea (go with three seperate points releated to immigration).
2. Discussion of point 1.
3. 2. Discussion of point 2.
4. 2. Discussion of point 3.
5. Restate controlling idea and conclusion.
Go here and download Tom Tancredo's speech:

Illegals take jobs away from the poorest Americans and depress wages for the poorest Americans.
Please use common sense if using material from the american patrol site. Much of the material is extremist hyperbole'(just my style) and will not be welcome in a school setting, but there may be some useful info there. Some of the info would be seen as "RACIST" by the sensitive.
So please be careful
Compare and contrast Mexico's current immigration laws (yes, to immigrate TO Mexico) to what Mexico wants our immigration laws to be. After all Vincente Fox is going to start pressuring President Bush for immigration reforms now.
Mexico is pretty lax about letting retirees come in as long as they have a proven monthly income over a certain $ amount, but others have to have some pretty serious cash to invest to be able to qualify for residency and to work much less citizenship.
But the U.S. is considering granting guest worker status to 8 million Mexicans who broke the law to get here? And there is one measure in Congress to give 500,000 illegals residency and another to allow immigrant students to pay the same tuition as citizens.
It's a different twist on a really good topic.
Good luck! Let us know if we can help!
Perhaps some of the people on the illegal immigration ping list can help you out. Hey guys, a young patriot could use a some assistance.
Good luck to you!
Make sur eto put something in there that talks about the effect of illegal immigration on non citizens who are backed up into the system and have to wait much longer to come to the USA legally. Illegal immigration is having a devistating effect on the number of educated non citizens who are trying to relocate here. Venezuala is hit the hardest by illegal immigration. It is very difficult for them to get school or work visas. It pretty sad actually. I have a friend from venezuela, very educated, speaks perfect english and he is just an all around good person. The kind of people we want immigrating here. He went through hell to keep his education and work visa. They keep tight tabs on him and I think its pretty ridiculous that hes here legally and yet hes treated like he not and the illegals are treated with far more respect. Hypocritical.
You've come to the right place. Collectively we know everything.
You might also compare the natural resources of Mexico with the USA's -=- and how number of billionaires in Mexico competes with number in Great Britain --- obviously there is no excuse for the level of poverty. Mexico has already dumped one-fifth of it's population on the USA --- but there is no end to their demands --- Vicente Fox is all the more aggressive in what he requires.
Massive immigration is the result of social injustice in Mexico --- it results from instability and leads to more instability. This is a vicious spiral now --- the more people they send us, the more people they demand to send us. They never intend to end the corruption, they never intend to build up a strong middle class or allow the peasants to reach the middle class or have access to the great wealth of Mexico. This is the elites' way of preventing a long overdue revolution or changing the underlying conditions that lead to one.
