Patricia Ireland says: "Jesus didn't say anything about lesbians"
Hannity & Colmes | 11/4/04 | Patricia Ireland

Patricia Ireland just said that she grew up as a Christian in Indiana and asked that (paraphrase) "if there was a real problem with lesbians and gays, why didn't Jesus say anything about it?"

Jesus's Dad did all the talking on the subject that needed to be said.

"Lot, you and your family get out of here and don't look back or a cow's tongue will be the next thing to touch you."

What was Jesus going to say? "My Dad was way off base on that Sodom and Gomorrah thing. He should dig them up and apologize for being such a homophobe?"

He didn't speak about incest or beastiality or other specific sins either.

That wasn't his job.

He was sent to show us how to reconcile with his Father by repenting our sins and no longer committing them. That is why he told the prostitute to "go and sin no more." Not "go and be a good whore."

Jesus supported the Jewish moral code, and indeed asked people to go further, and not lust in their hearts. Either Paul or Leviticus, I can't remember which, talks about women lying with women. Jesus strongly upheld the sanctity of marriage, in which discussion he clearly referred to Genesis where it is based on a man and a woman. Sacred Tradition in the Church from the Apostles onward condemn homosexual activity as sinful.

Amen Brother, Amen.

Yes, Jesus agreed with the condemnation of Sodom and Gomorrah. It's written in scripture. It is clear from the story that the city intended to force sex by men upon men.

Luke 17:29
But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.

Matthew 10:15
I tell you the truth, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.

Genesis 19

Sodom and Gomorrah Destroyed

1 The two angels arrived at Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gateway of the city. When he saw them, he got up to meet them and bowed down with his face to the ground. 2 "My lords," he said, "please turn aside to your servant's house. You can wash your feet and spend the night and then go on your way early in the morning."
"No," they answered, "we will spend the night in the square."
3 But he insisted so strongly that they did go with him and entered his house. He prepared a meal for them, baking bread without yeast, and they ate. 4 Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom-both young and old-surrounded the house. 5 They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them."
6 Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him 7 and said, "No, my friends. Don't do this wicked thing.

However I don't believe the bible mentions women on woman sex anywhere.

It bans sex between people who haven't had their union blessed by God. Hetrosexual or homosexual. No such unions are blessed. God doesn't bless sex outside of marriage. His definition, not some legislator or judge. None.

Why do you assume that the "detestable things" refers to (or primarily to) homosexuality?

Because it is repeatedly condemned throughout the Bible. It's one of the Bible's great consistencies.

Many things are condemned throughout the Bible, so logically this does not answer my question.

Many folks seem to hold to a notion that the Bible teaches that marriage is to be between one man and one woman, and that this is all there is to it. But things get murky. In the OT, we read of patriarchs and kings who had harems; these are not condemned in the relevant passages. (E.g., Solomon is condemned not for having many wives, but for taking foreign wives, who introduced their gods into Israel.) In the NT, we see the practice of levarite marriage: if a woman's husband dies, she marries his unmarried brother (if he is elible). This apppears in the familiar passage where the lawyers ask Jesus whose wife will a woman be in heaven, who has married in turn seven brothers.

One thing is very clear, however. In the NT, it is certain that marriage is to be permanent and it is to be between one man and one woman. And it is to be based on mutual love and caring (having a wife is to be no mere matter of property rights, as was usual in ancient times). Other posters on this thread are also quite correct to interpret Romans 1 as a statement of homosexuality being the result of idolatry. (It is not my intent in this thread to defend the spurious notion that the Bible, OT and NT, does not condemn homosexuality.)

Jesus drove the moneychangers from the temple in a Fury.

This assertion will be verified by the School of Automotive Theology run by Click and Clack. Dr. Denton Fender is the Dean nowadays.

But yea verily, a Fury definitely qualifies, as does Knute's Accord in post 105, I looked it up in my Mopar Concord..ia.

God, without mixing words, judges, "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination" (Leviticus 18:22; 20:13). Paul includes lesbianism in the condemnation: "For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature" (Romans 1:26). Later in I Corinthians 6:9, to make our understanding absolutely clear, he writes that neither "homosexuals, nor sodomites" will inherit the Kingdom of God (cf. Jude 7).

In each of the three instances in the Old Testament where homosexuality is shown in society, destruction immediately follows. The city of Sodom gave its name to this vile practice and has served as the preeminent example of God's displeasure (Genesis 18:20-21; 19:1-29). Two lesser-known cases also show that a rise in homosexuality signals a quick decline and fall.

During the period of the Judges, the tribe of Benjamin was nearly exterminated because of a horrifying incident that began with this perverse sin (Judges 19-21). When the fighting was over, only six hundred Benjamite men remained alive, and their cities and all their wealth were destroyed. It is a reasonable assumption that homosexuality was not confined to Benjamin among the tribes of Israel. If so, this may explain the astounding losses suffered by the other tribes (Judges 20:18-25).

Later, in the reign of Rehoboam of Judah, the Bible records, "And there were also perverted persons in the land. They did according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel" (I Kings 14:24). "Perverted persons" is a translation of the Hebrew qedeshim, meaning "those practicing sodomy and prostitution in religious rituals" (marginal note). The next verses reveal the result of their sin: Pharaoh Shishak of Egypt marched against Judah and conquered Jerusalem, carrying away all the treasures of the Temple and the royal house (verses 25-26).

I think the Old Testament was pretty clear on sexual abberrations - sometimes too clear.

And I think Christ said soemthing about coming not to destroy the scriptures but to fulfill them.

That's good enough for me.

As Jesus is the author of the whole Word of God, He said the following.

Verse 26 hits the nail on the head.

Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
Rom 1:19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.
Rom 1:20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.
Rom 1:21 For even though they knew God, they did not [3] honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Rom 1:22 Professing to be wise, they became fools,
Rom 1:23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and [4] crawling creatures.
Rom 1:24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them.
Rom 1:25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
Rom 1:26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural,
Rom 1:27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.
Rom 1:28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper,
Rom 1:29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips,
Rom 1:30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,
Rom 1:31 without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful;
Rom 1:32 and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.

Are there any theological freepers out there than can provide a Bible-based defense?

Totally unnecessary and a waste of time. This pervert is coming from her own tunnel-vision universe. I have better things to do with my time.
