Patricia Ireland says: "Jesus didn't say anything about lesbians"

Patricia Ireland just said that she grew up as a Christian in Indiana and asked that (paraphrase) "if there was a real problem with lesbians and gays, why didn't Jesus say anything about it?"

An important point about the story of Sodom is that it has less to do with homosexuality than it does with attacking the vulnerable. (The citizens of Sodom wanted to rape Lot's guests.) Some suggest that this story is in part a warning about inhospitality in a time when travelers were vulnerable; supposedly every ancient culture told stories with a similar moral. This is perhaps the context when Jesus warns (in Matthew 10), Whatever town or village you enter, search for some worthy person there and stay at his house until you leave. As you enter the home, give it your greeting. If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you. If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town. I tell you the truth, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.

Elsewhere in the scriptures we read (Ezekiel 16): "Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy."

Patricia Ireland is just using an old tactic to confuse the issue. Either people believe the Bible is God's word or they don't. Either they believe Romans is just as instructive as Matthew or they don't. The wriggling they do to look for loopholes fools nobody but themselves and those who do this set themselves (and those they manage to mislead) up for spiritual failure.

Galations 6:7 "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life."

Jesus made it clear that the Law of Moses was to be obeyed.

Mark 10:3
"What did Moses command you?" he replied.

And here is what Moses had to say about Homosexuality.

Leviticus 20
13 " 'If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.

He did. He said that "the Law and the Prophets " (the Old Testament) are the Word of God. They quite clearly state that homosexual behavior is a sin.

In Psalms 22:16, David was given a vision of Christ's thoughts on the cross. It goes like this, "For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have enclosed me:"

In the Strongs Concordance the interpretation of "dogs" as used here refers to homosexual temple prostitutes. When your Creator calls you a dog, it's time to self examine.

Leviticus 18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind: it is an abomination. Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast, to lie down thereto: it is confusion. Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things, for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you.

Jesus said, God has made marriage between a man and a woman.

Romans 1:24 Wherefor God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves.

Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever.

For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature. And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another, men with men working that recompense of their error which was meet. And giving them over to a reprobate mind to do those things which are not convenient.

Then there is this one, "Let no man deceive you, no unrepentant thief, adulterer, fornicator, liar, effeminate, those that dress in woman's clothes, no murderer, will ever see the Kingdom of God.

But I think you are wasting your time. Like Romans 1 says, these people are turned over to a reprobate mind, their conscience seared off as with a hot iron.

Just remind them that "When we repent of our sins God is faithful and just to forgive us. If we say we sin not, we call God a liar, and He is not in us".

In Matthew, Jesus refers to the punishment visited on Sodom as just.

Not really....  Here is where SODOM is mentioned in Mt.
 
Matthew 10:15
  I tell you the truth, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.
 
Matthew 11:23-24
 23.  And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to the skies? No, you will go down to the depths.  If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day.
 24.  But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you."
 

But Dr. Luke does use the word 'just'.
 
Luke 17:29-30
 29.  But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.
 30.  "It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed.

I was referring to what Jesus did not say. I agree that all scripture is equally authoritative, and sufficient to settle this question. It is clear that homosexuality is an abomination to God.

Which could read as lesbianism or just kinky sex.

I think the context of the passage makes the meaning clearer than that.

"Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion".

The whole Bible is clear that God made men and women for each other and sex for marriage.
