Why didn't the dope resign six months ago and run against Feingold?

For some strange reason, he seems to have a liking for Slimeroad. In 1998, when Tommy had a chance to help Mark Neumann knock him off (Tommy was cruising to another re-election against a very unimpressive Ed Garvey), all the state GOP money dried up faster than a thimble of water on a typical Santa Fe summer day.

No. Powell would be too senstive at Dod.

He actually APOLOGIZED for the highway of death in 91.

he there were retreating, not surrendering.

Actually I hope Powell goes to the Sec of Def spot, better use of his talents. If Rummy goes that is.

Heard a talking head say that Rummy is leaving, and Powell might take his place. I can live with that.

Powell is not a warrior - he's a statesman. I hope to Keep Rummy (or, perhaps, Tommy Franks).

The Defense Secretary takes orders from the President. His job is to win wars. I trust Powell to do that. He's done it before.

If bush hadn't tapped thompson as HHS director, he would have won wisconsin as well. The voter id bill would have been signed and the fraud would have been curtailed.

Lukily for GWB he didn't need WI to win.

It doesnt matter if he was in favor of going into Iraq, we are already there, if Rummy goes, Powell should take his place or Franks should.

I can't. I don't want anyone but Sect. Rumsfeld or (former) Sect. Cheney in my chain of command.

I respect Sec. Powell, but I think he needs to stay at Foggy Bottom. I'd rather have Al Haige as SOD.

Thompson was a great governor of Wisconsin who should have declined to head the bureaucratic HHS. Actually, he should have ran against Kohl in 2000. Herb Kohl is a joke whose Senate resume would make John Kerry look like a workaholic. Kohl wins because he has Milwaukee and Madison locked down from the money he spent in those two cities.

Tommy was a friend of my dad's, and I have the utmost respect and admiration for him. I grew up not far from his hometown, and I can imagine that he can't get out of D.C. fast enough. I'm glad he stuck it out this long.

they're apparently not going to count the absentee ballots in wisconsin once the republicans dropped their recount plans.

Since the outcome of the election wouldn't be changed, there will be no further counting.

I just said W is cleaning house

It has been a very, very tough four years and my sense is that a number of Cabinet members would like to get on with their lives in less stressful and/or more lucrative jobs. Think of what these guys and gals have gone through; makes your basic merger or business reorg look like a walk in the park. If I were Powell, Rumsfeld, or Ashcroft, I'd probably be looking for a new gig as well. They've done their duty and deserve both our thanks and the opportunity to de-stress and make some serious bank.

He wanted a different job in the administration, remember? I think it was Secretary of Transportation...but my memory could be messing with me.
