As I and many of my fellow expatriates are often hard pressed to get any non-biased information from the media (we are often stuck with CNN-International!!), I have decided to start this thread in the tradition of the Operation Iraqi Freedom Situation Room threads.  I hope this meets with the approval of Jim & John and the Admin guys . . .

The purpose of this thread is to be a place to collect information from all sources into one area for discussion.  Specific threads for specific topics and cross linking are highly encouraged.

Voted in Long Island, New York. While waiting on-line I noticed something very interesting. A lot of voters spent an inordinate amount of time in the booth, 4 - 5 minutes. I concluded alot of Democrats are having a hard time voting for Kerry.

Bus loads of liberal NY'ers are going to PA this morning. If they're registered to vote in PA thinking NY is safe, 9/11 may have changed that a bit. It would be so cool if Bush took NY while they were "away" doing their dirty deeds.

Report from Woodland Hills, California

I voted in my largely Democratic precinct, getting in at 7:05am. There were about 30 people in line ahead of me, and about five voting machines. It took about 23 minutes for me to vote straight republican and against all propositions that involved raising taxes or spending money.

There were no poll watchers or literature distributors around. No talk about politics at all.

We are now using ink voting instead of chads. In my opinion, it's much easier to determine whether you're pushing out a chad versus inking the space accurately. You also have to make sure the ink has dried before processing the ballot, or the ink will smudge, creating overvotes. One precinct worker suggested they make a hair dryer available next time, and everyone chuckled.

I checked my ballot and found that I had not fully filled in the slot for George W Bush, so I put it back into the machine and re-did it. I think it's very possible that ANY voting mechanism would have given problems in Florida's 2000 election.

I noticed that at the beginning of the election season a lot of Kerry/Edwards lawn signs went up, and very few Bush/Cheney signs. But in the last week or so I've noticed the same numbers of Kerry/Edwards but more Bush/Cheney joining them, both on cars and lawns. This might indicate increasing support for Bush, or it might be that Bush isn't as well organized around here.

It looks to me from the reports that the heavy enthusiasm for voting is on the Bush side, not the Kerry, despite all the widely-publicised hatred of Bush. I fully expect Bush to win the popular vote. Now let's see how he does in Florida and Ohio.

Was there much electioneering at your precinct? At Liberty 4/ Liberty 8 there was only Tim Flook's dad and a couple women supporting Willoughby and Bob Saunders.

My hubby and I just voted in Waukesha County, WI. We were in and out, numbers 450 something. Our daughter was still on the registered voter list, even though she has moved to Milwaukee County and has already voted there. We were not asked for ID.

I wouldn't hold much stock in this report.

People in DC are affected by the all-Democrat, all the time atmosphere in DC. They think everyone who votes is like everyone who votes in DC, in which case, frankly, we wouldn't have a prayer.

Unless they're really checking out the national pulse instead of talking to their friends, I would disregard this.

Question for my fellow Californias.

A friend at work has moved since the last election and never recieved his sample ballot or polling place location. I want to get him to the polls as he's a Former Marine and well vote for GWB. Any Ideas, can he show up anywhere or should he go to the last place where he voted?

I voted early in the morning out here in S. CA. There seemed to be some Bush supporters (a couple of people had pamphlets for Republican candidates with them). Lines weren't too long (20 minutes).

I'd like to put in my own plea for state by state threads. It's too much to track a nationwide thread; there are just too many posts too fast. It would be great to be able to see how things are doing in, say, Ohio and Florida and even (just for fun) my own state of California, without checking out the other states.

Me too. I voted in Indiana, a very red state. We have had a Rat governor since 1988 but that is about to change.

DH and I got to our polling place around 6:45, and were in the door at 7am.

I was out the door at 7:15. We had poll judges, poll observers, and polling assistants. (it was a crowded room)

By the time we got there, there was roughly 30 people in line ahead of us. When we left, ~60 people still waiting. (and this is a primarily D district in W. TN)

I voted right after my morning class. Our precint (the Johnson Community) is a small, rural Mississippi one, but at ten o'clock a little over one hundred people had voted. I went in a cast my ballot for Bush and headed home. I imagine my precint will go heavily for Bush (there are lots of Bush signs around; haven't seen a single Kerry one!).

I woke up at 4 am this morning and was very excited too. Went with a neighbor from Long Island to make our casts. His family in Long Island voted early yesterday and all 4 voted for W. His dad is 84 and has never voted Republican. His brother and sisters are Dems too voting for GWB. Even emailing my lib friends and coworkers to remind them to vote this election.
