***Operation 4 More Years - Situation Room - Day 1 - LIVE THREAD***
Various | 2 November 2004 | Various

Posted on 11/02/2004 2:48:56 AM PST by An.American.Expatriate

As I and many of my fellow expatriates are often hard pressed to get any non-biased information from the media (we are often stuck with CNN-International!!), I have decided to start this thread in the tradition of the Operation Iraqi Freedom Situation Room threads.  I hope this meets with the approval of Jim & John and the Admin guys . . .

The purpose of this thread is to be a place to collect information from all sources into one area for discussion.  Specific threads for specific topics and cross linking are highly encouraged.

I forgot to add that today is the one year anniversary of the death of a dear friend of mine. One year ago today, he was aboard a Chinook helicopter that went down in Fallujah, killing all of the 16 soldiers on board. He didn't believe it was the wrong war, wrong place, wrong time...and neither do I. In his memory and in support of the troops still serving, my vote went solidly to Bush/Cheney.

~In loving memory of Sgt. Ross A. Pennanen
2nd Battalion, 5th Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Sill, Okla.

Just came back from voting in DuPage County, Illinois.

They have a pretty good system. The election judges have a booklet of perforated pages, one for each registered voter. These have an image of the voter's signature. You have to present ID to vote, and the election judge has to tear out your page so you can sign it, before you get your ballot.

This is the way it should work. So why do so many places have such a hard time?

Voted in beautiful Tallassee, Alabama. Very heavy rain this morning here. Record crowds at my polling place, and all the local stations are saying there's record turnout everywhere! Overwhelming for Bush!!!! Almost every truck leaving my polling place's parking lot had a Bush/Cheney sticker! WhooRah!!!!

Just voted in Nashville, Tn. I live in downtown and the voting place is very VERY Democrat. They asked my husband if he was a Rep or Dem in order to turn on the machine. He said it did not matter and then she turned on the machine.

A little voter intimidation in reverse!

Voters exit with a determined look and almost everyone stops by the Bush/Cheney table to make a positive comment.

I heard some talk show weenie this morning say that people dont come out to wait in line for four hours to give a positive message to an incumbent.

Having read your post I have to disagree.

Question: Historically, who does high voter turnout tend to favor?

Technically speaking I'm half Canadian. And that's NOT a joke. (Father still a Canadian citizen when I was born).

I voted, and I have a question for everyone who voted with the new electronic system in Maryland:

What was stopping me (other than my good character) from removing the "voter authorization card" from my machine, re-inserting it and voting a second time? There appears to be no initialization procedure for the cards, they just hand them out like tickets and then take them back form you when you leave.

The thing is, the polls were busy and the guy wasn't watching very closely at all. Seems like an invitation to voter fraud!

Is there something about this system I don't understand?

Just back from voting in southern Chester County (Philadelphia suburb). Took about 15 minutes and everything seemed to be very organized and efficient. By the way, we still use the punch cards here and we know how to do it right.

Weather in the Philly area is nice and warm today. Freepers, just get it done!

Keep in mind that there is a sizeable Amish community in Wisconsin, also. Iowa, too. Not many people are aware of those communities, but they are large enough to matter in those close swing states.

Here's hoping they shut up the tinfoil asshats today!

My husband voted at 7:05am and I voted at 7:55am. He was #38 and I was #137. 100 votes cast in less than an hour.

He had to stand in line, but although it was steady and the place was full, I was able to get my ballot and sit down at a table with the jedis. Went over each aspect with the jedis, showing them the ballot and such.

The best part was, the poll workers knew me! Waved at me and even called me by name! No way someone could ever steal my vote! I like that.

Oklahoma Ping!

My wife and I were at the polls 15 minutes before they opened at 7:00 am and waited 45 minutes in line before voting. Great turn out at all districts!! The karma was incredible....A real magical experience!! GO BUSH!!!!!!

Vote cast here in sunny western Henrico County, VA. Took about a half hour to make it through the line. I could only easily identify about a half dozen potential Kerry votes (piercings are a dead giveaway).

We use the tried an true punch card ballots here. Lots of laughing and joking in line. Republican pamphleteers were in evidence, but no Democrat counterparts.
