One Reporter's Opinion - This Land Is Our Land George Putnam Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004 It is this reporter's opinion that it is time to set the record straight for the misinformed Mexican illegal aliens and troublemaking Latino activists who call my Talk Back radio program monotonously.
They repeat for the millionth time the tired worn-out lie that "America stole the seven southwestern states from Mexico. This is our land, gringo, and we are taking it back!"
WRONG!
Here are the facts: Texans fought for and won independence from Mexico on April 26, 1836 following its victory over the Mexicans at the Battle of San Jacinto.
Nine years later, in December of 1845, the U.S. annexed the Texas republic. Congress sent General Zachary Taylor to Texas to protect its border with Mexico.
Mexico claimed the Rio Grande River as "their territory." After a series of attacks and clashes with Mexican troops inside the Texas territory, Congress declared war on Mexico May 13, 1846.
Hostilities continued for two years as General Taylor Scott led American troops to engage Mexican forces in New Mexico, California, and deep into Mexico. Mexico City was captured by General Scott in August of 1847.
February 2, 1848 Mexican officials and U.S. representatives signed a peace treaty known as "THE TREATY OF GUADALUPE HIDALGO."
The provisions of that treaty called for Mexico to cede to the U.S. 55 percent of its territory (that is present day Arizona, California, New Mexico, Texas and parts of Colorado, Nevada and Utah) - this in exchange for $15-18 million in compensation for war-related damage to Mexican property.
The U.S. Senate ratification of the treaty, U.S. forces then left Mexico City.
There you have it. There are the facts. Either accept the facts or continue living a lie.
The U.S. did not steal anything from Mexico; the former Mexican territory was won by the blood of young Americans like the ones who fought World Wars I and II, Korea, Vietnam, and are now engaged in Iraq. The seven southwestern states are American land, not "their land."
This despite what the pro-Mexican and Hispanic racist groups like La Raza, Aztlan, Lulac and La Mecha teach their uninformed young Spanish-speaking students in our own American public schools. Shame, shame, shame!
It is exactly how Adolf Hitler indoctrinated his people to kill anyone who opposed the German view of the world as he shouted, "Deutschland Uber Alles lebersraum!" (Germany over all and living room!). This is KKK American Nazi or Black Panther talk.

It hasen't been safe down there for years. I've delt with people that have been brutalized down there. People that go down there for a romp, do so at a risk.

It had been over a decade since I went down to have a look Joe.
I did it because I was in San Diego anyway and wanted to see what was up these days.
It seemed horrible down there. On the bus rides I did learn lots of people go down for two major reasons.
#1 Drugs: Your allowed to have a 3 month supply with you when you come back to America, so people go down there with empty bottles from a recent prescription, fill up there and come back.
#2 Dentistry: There are a few good ones down there and they are drastically cheaper.
When you go by bus, there is a lot less checking on you.
The Mexican official just comes on the bus before it goes in, probably takes a bribe from the company and leaves.
On the way back, at one point you exit the bus, go through the border where they check your ID. Quickly if you seem American.
Then back on the bus and you are back.
About $4 to ride both ways. Best thing to do, rather than drive in and be at risk more so.
My parents lived outside of Guaymas in the early 70s, so we went down fairly often, and no problems.
After they moved back stateside, about 5 years later, we didn't go down anymore until we drove to Mazatlan for the 1992 total eclipse.
At that time, the changes were striking. The toll booths on the hiways were sandbagged and fortified, with mounted & manned machineguns on the roofs, and platoon strength Federales with automatic weapons, and 6-bys and Jeeps with mounted .30's in defensive positions.
The new "freeway" had signs posted warning people NOT to use it without waiting for military escorts. The old hiway was safer.
Many of the haciendas were being fortified with new perimeter walls, and new watchtowers, with gunslits, built at the corners and entrances; and the ground between the walls and buildings was being cleared. Some looked like they were digging tunnels to the perimeter towers
Federale squad-strength foot patrols were everywhere along the roads.
Trash all over the place, and villagers dirtier than I had ever seen them.
Haven't been back since, and don't plan to.

I am so sick of this. If they want to live in Mexico, then live in Mexico. If they want to live in the USA, then quit griping, salute our flag, learn our language or go home. Be an American or not!
Federales? Not allowed to own much in the way of firearms? The last 6 or 8 didn't improve things? The citified Mexicans like their 'telly & tranks'?

Is that done to protect the elites from the people? Or is done mostly to stop drug runners? Maybe different drug groups. One group gets safe passage. the other gets blasted if they try to come through that area?

Bing-fricking-GO! There was no desire on the part of the mexicans to even go to Texas until the Anglos built something to "go" to. This is the most astute statement from New Jersey for the entire day.
An even more disheartening thought is that mexico will have no ability for self-rule in the foreseeable future. Corrupt, incestuous power driven "politicians" and LEO's will keep mexico in the third world gutter forever.

In absolute terms, yep. But if you think in relative terms, not necessarily. They grew up there...that's all they know...that's how the world is.
On the other hand, they come here and it's like Disneyland on a free pass. I understand that....but it's still not my problem.
Mexico's problems stem from a problem with the Mexican people. Call them stereotypes...but they come from an origin of truth. Reminds me of a massive overgrown rat nest, eating it's young...and spreading disease to it's neighbors. We've got enough stupid people here already...we don't need the bottom of the barrel from Mexico thinning out the progress gene.
Yeah, there are exceptions. . .but those people understand the system and are assimilating instead of perpetuating this aztlan cr@P.

I think there should be no amnesty, and that applications from around the world should be more even and not mostly to Mexicans with little or no skills.
