Got these pics from our annonymous freeper in Iraq and he asked that I post them. Interesting pictures of barrels of chemicals. Dupont lists Dimethyl Sulfate as a strong methylating agent with superior reaction rates and high yields, and as a versatile chemical that can be used for a variety of processes in the production of many household and commercial chemicals.
Was Saddam using it for those purposes? Perhaps after looking into it our inspectors felt that way...but the Kurds certainly weren't such a purpose for Saddam's chemicals, and they certainly are what you might call a dual use technology.

What is the picture in the upper right corner?
To: Jeff Head
You notice the white lettering on the barrel in the first pic, the chemical name and then the letters "UN". Ill bet those barrels were found during the first inspections just after Gulf War 1, so this would be on the list of declared stuff. Im not trying to burst anyones bubble or anything, just dont get too excited, believe me if we found anything the administration would definately get it out there.

No doubt it is a stockpile...and with other boxes indicating they are a part of the "Ministry of Defence".
...but I am sure that the former Iraqi Ministry of Defence was going to use them in the production of other household chemcials. [/sarcasm]

He was mixing the with hydrazine to use as UDMH type of basic fuel for his scuds I believe.......could be wrong as it was just a quick observation in 91.

Well, this "stuff" was discovered by our military after the current invasion...as to whether it had been previously declared or not, I cannot say.
Iraq was supposed to have destroyed the older wepaons material.
One way or another, dangerous chemicals that have been used as chemical warfare agents in the past were in that warehouse with other boxes labeled "Ministry of Defence" in Iraq.

If the UN found them in 91, why would they still be in Iraq?

You nailed it with the last phrase. The chemicals were sitting in Iraq, under Saddam's control, under his Ministry of Defence's control.
I wonder why they were there? [/sarcasm]

People like to float the "dual use" excuse, but in tyrannical Iraq, was there really a developed industrial base where the civilian use was actually in demand?

If you have evidence of something, notify the proper authorities!
Nobody here with a working mind is going to draw any conclusions based on these pictures, which could have been taken in your backyard.
And by the way, what's the point of posting ambiguous pictures here? Can anyone here help you?
A label on a barrel is meaningless alone.
Come on, people.
To: Jeff Head
I feel very uncomfortable about these pics. It seems like a plant by a liberal to leave a rope dangling, hoping that FReepers will hang themselves on it by their comments, making us look like fools when he reveals the true source of these pictures later on. So be cautious. Anybody can take pictures. We should have pictures that can prove that they were taken in Iraq by a "real" FReeper. Notice the handle name of the FReeper was not given in the article. I smell a plant.
