Terror alert issued for school bus drivers

Department of Public Safety authorities have put school bus drivers from around the state on a heightened state of alert regarding the possibility of terrorist activity, including those in Payson, Pine and Tonto Basin.

State authorities have asked all school bus drivers to be alert for any possible terrorist activity in the next six weeks.

A Sept. 28 information bulletin from DPS Student Transportation Supervisor Vicki Barnett to PUSD Director of Support Operations Joe Martin, directed bus drivers to "pay particular attention to any unusual activity around school buses; to unusual vehicles; to vehicles repeatedly seen in the vicinity; and, to any vehicles or individuals in unauthorized locations."

Iraqi Caught With San Diego School Crisis Plan
Man Suspected To Have Links To Terrorism

SAN DIEGO -- An Iraqi man with suspected links to terrorism had a computer disk containing crisis planning information for San Diego and other school districts when he was arrested by U.S. authorities in Iraq, 10News reported.

The man's intentions were not known, and there was no indication that schools in San Diego or any other district were targets for terrorism, according to San Diego law enforcement officials.

The public report, "Practical Information on Crisis Planning, A Guide for Schools and Communities," was downloaded from the U.S. Department of Education Web site.



The arrest was reported to the San Diego FBI office and the San Diego Unified School District last week. Parents and schools were not informed because it was determined there was not a threat.

"The clear message is that your children are safe and our schools are very well prepared, as well as our school district," San Diego School District Police Chief Don Braun said.

San Diego Police Chief William Lansdowne echoed the sentiment that public notification was not necessary.

"If we're going to warn people it has got to be something we've authenticated, it's specific and you need to know this information," Lansdowne said.

The school district did take one precaution by denying access to the emergency plans on its Web site, according to 10News.

I wonder if they'd let the drivers arm themselves for their own, and the childrens' protection. I doubt it, but I wonder how many drivers will bring a gun when they're driving, and just not say anything about it to anyone.

They say Al Qaeda funded the Chechen warlord behind that school attack. We know that Al Qaeda has been trying to recruit non Arabs for terrorist attacks. Maybe the Chechens didn't get that money for free. Maybe that's why they crossed the Mexican border.

When I was going to school in the 60s and 70s the school bus was owned by the man driving it; now we have district owned or leased buses driven mostly by women. Discipline is lax, and the average woman driver hasn't the physical or mental strength to defend the children. Sure anyone can call for the police on a cellphone of bus radio but actually defend the kids ? Plus the insane no guns within any school property law means ONLY the terrorist(s) will be armed.

At this point, I'm glad to be among them "nefarious hs'ers"....As if the miserable failure of public education isnt bad enough, I cant imagine having to worry about your kids on a bus everyday....this is alarmimg.
A thought...if the illegal crossings in Arizona turn out to have terror connection and it's made public right before the election, sKerry will try to use it to slam Bush....failed attempt to secure border. (I do think we need to get a better handle on the borders, btw....but sKerry isnt the one to do it)

Allah will help them. I'm sure too angry to assist. My sympathies have been/will be to the parents and relatives of dead children who were targets.
