Heads UP on Zogby Poll being done today
Vanity ^ | JW Howard

Posted on 10/11/2004 7:27:40 AM PDT by Jerry W. Howard

Sorry for the "Vanity" post, but this might be significant:

New Zogby poll being conducted today includes several pages of very well thought out "Ad Research Focus Group" stuff. Majority of entire poll form devoted to researching effective Political Ad potential of simi-subliminal points.

Many "Freedom vs. Safety" & "US Dominance vs. Global Approval" etc.

Most bizzare question: "For President would you vote for: (1) The Tin Man, who has a brain but no heart, - or (2) The Scarecrow, who has a heart, but no brain.

I did not make that up -- it was on the form.

I must admit, I couldn't have put the fundamental difference between Bush and Kerry better, except that I would argue that Bush has a heart as well as a brain. (My personal opinion is that Kerry has little of either.)

Little chance that the data will be offered to the Bush campaign, but I bet this poll was coordinated with the Kerry Campaign.

For what it is worth, my degree is in psychology, although I never pursued it professionally. I did however, study tests and testing (Personality and IQ testing is especially useful in analyzing gullibility of ad targets - whether consumer products or unbelievable political candidates)

I don't think it's a vanity at all. I'm glad you've posted it.

I received this survey too and was amazed at this question.

Someone pointed out that the Apple Tree was the only one in the entire film that understood property rights.

I received this poll last Friday. It was certainly different from the usual Zogby.

It looks like Zogby plays word games. So, I would have wrote in your answer that Bush has a heart and a brain, and ignored their choices.

Fe: "where did you see the form?"

I am one of their "sample" -- have gotten the last three polls.

and are you saying that zogby then extrapolated out which one is Bush, which is kerry and this is what their latest poll is based on???

In the past, Zogby has done well the last week of the campaign compared to many others because of their ability to determine the leanings of supposedly undecided voters. Rasmussen can't get at stuff like that because he doesn't have a human being taking in the data and recording the reactions of the respondents as well as their answers.

I'll bet that question gives some insight into Zogby's secret sauce if I had the ability to decipher it....which I don't.

I'd vote for the Wizard, McKinley.

Bizarre indeed!

I hang up on the multitude of political callers and pollsters in our battleground state, and I deep six any that come via email. The only time I answered a pollster was for a Newsweek poll on abortion about 10 years ago. I was disgusted by the twisted way they asked questions and reported results and vowed to keep my opnions to myself henceforth. (FreeRepublic excepted, of course!)

Re: "and are you saying that zogby then extrapolated out which one is Bush, which is kerry and this is what their latest poll is based on???"

No, I am saying that IMHO this poll is primarily aimed at researching which subtle "nuances" will enable Kerry Ad writers to effectively reassure the public who distrust Kerry's sincerity and his agreement with their "core values."

In other words, to come up with the Clintonian, tear in the corner of the eye, "I feel your pain" that will swing the "security moms" to his camp.

I am also on the Zogby sample and I received this poll Saturday. I was shocked at the Scarecrow/Tin Man question, but I was also surprised at the endless list of questions about which topic you would have an emotional response to if someone made a derogatory remark about. What did you think about those questions?

I've been on their list for a couple of years--but I didn't get this poll yet. Maybe they've decided I'm too hidebound.

This Zogby poll wasn't "in person", it was sent as a link via email to a web page. I got it yesterday.

The Scarecrow, who has a heart, but no brain.

Anyone who understands the Wizard of OZ knows that the Scarecrow had a brain, and used it, all along.

Me too. Most weird. When they asked about the tin man, I gasped and said Gore is running this time.
