Who is your favorite conservative radio talk show host?

Posted on 09/17/2004 8:18:26 PM PDT by RedOhio

I was just wondering what everyone's favorite talk radio show is. My favorite is Glenn Beck. Your thoughts?

RUSH-He was the first to tread where no one had gone before.
The King of Talk Radio.

Laura Ingraham--She fears no one, is comparable to Ann Coulter, can dissect these prigs like a a Beni Hana chef.

Michael Medvad: Brilliant historian. Can turn any BS Liberal assertion into babbling.

Michael Savage--depends on his topic

Hugh Hewitt--again, depends on his topic.

Tammy Bruce--she has three hours on Saturdays, KFI--I agree with her 98 % of the time A Zell Miller Democrat. If she had a daily show, I would not miss any of it.

Tony Snow--only an hour a day, but again, he can explain thingds better than any political commentator.

G. Gordon Liddy--I'll always have a soft spot for the G-Man, since he was the first conservative talk radio host I ever heard, on WJFK in Washington in the late '80s. He used to come on after Howard Stern (back when Stern was actually funny). His "review and comment on the news" segment in the 11 o'clock hour was FANTASTIC. It was great to hear the news stories and conservative columns that he'd read. So now he's like, what, 114 years old and trying to break Strom Thurmond's nookie record in the Master's Division?

Rush--still The Man. It seems like some of the life has gone out of the show since I started listening in 1991--I really miss all the different "updates" (who can forget "we're fierce, we're feminist, and we're in your face!")--but he still really does make it look easy, even after all his problems. None of his analysis is particularly original or insightful, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's mostly reconstituted from other writers, but he packages it in a way that's very easy for the listener to understand and is a total master of the medium in all its forms. He's a pro's pro.

Glenn Beck--the first few times I listened to him, I was like, "Who is this guy? WHAT is this guy?" But now I really like the show. I like the humor, and those moments when he gets really personal can be absolutely wrenching.

Laura Ingraham--grr, baby. VERY grrr. Hotter than a South Carolina summer day and smart to boot. I don't usually get to listen to her show that much since it comes on in the mornings here, but when I do I'm never disappointed.

Neal Boortz--I can take him in VERY small doses. He's guaranteed to say something that sends me ballistic after a short time. He doesn't debate, he pontificates. I can't deal with his blanket dismissal of pro-lifers and "flaggots"...for a guy who went to school in Texas and has lived in Atlanta forever, he's the most Southern-bashing host on the air.

Hannity--uh-uh. I am NOT Hannitized. He's an OK guy, I'd probably love to sit down and slam a couple of beers with him, but I can't handle the show. He's either sucking up to his Republican guests or berating and yelling at his Democratic ones. No real debate. Oh, and buy his book so he'll shut up about it, please?

Mike Gallagher comes on here in the afternoons but I haven't listened to him yet. Dr. Laura's actually back on the air here too...why would anyone call that show? Why would you call and tell the World's Most Judgemental I-Am-My-Kid's-Mom just how bad you screwed up your life, so she can rip you a new one in front of four million people?

I don't listen to that much political talk anymore anyhow. I'm a sports-talk guy, and a huge Jim Rome fan.

Rack me, I'm out.

Each of the Conservatives Hosts has their own strong points.

I agree that Michael Medved is superbly intelligent. I have a hard time listening to him though.

I have no patience left for liberal drivel. When they are spewing venom I want to drown them in the kitchen sink. I am rational enough to know that I'd risk electrocuting myself and ruining a perfectly good radio.

I appreciate that He gives them enough rope to hang themselves with and then does it.

Rush is funny , he is very shrewd and he sticks with a topic until it is over. He doesn't really do a new theme each hour.

I sometimes think some of the other shows leave things abruptly and unfinished just because the hour is over.

I appreciate Hugh being unabashedly Christian and not embarrassed by it. He cuts libs to much slack. That one liberal law professor he has on weekly needs to be run out of any educational institution on a rail.

I don't get to listen to any of the early birds, I work too late at night to get up early.

Michael Medved. He's the smartest host out there.

I'm with you, sink. I love Medved. The man is brilliant.

My favorites vary with subject matter...

For the best, inside-baseball politics, nobody is better than Hugh Hewitt.

The best for conservative, social commentary, is someone I haven't seen mentioned, Dennis Prager.. He is the personification of compassionate conservatism.

The best debater (with the possible exception of Levin, but we don't hear him much in Colorado) is KOA's Mike Rosen. He's not a social conservative but for pure debate, no one is better.

The best host for historical perspective and all-around versatility is Medved.

The best host for entertainment and production value is still Limbaugh. Annoying quirks aside, the man has great theatrical instincts.

Now the nitpicking... Hannity is good natured but mostly annoying... He lacks any original insight and seems to parrot what he's heard or read somewhere else.

Laura Ingraham goes off on too many populist rants. Her constant harping about the "elites" gets tiresome. She is a dogged debater, though.

Savage is mostly a blustery buffoon trading off on his angry-man meme. He lacks Limbaugh's self-depracting sense of humor.

I just like Savage and Rush so much because there's real substance there..,..and its 'intimate'. You feel like they're talking to you rather than a 'party' atmosphere. Know what I mean?

...Ummmm, sure....

[Chandler]...So could that matter ANNNY less..?

He's really still on the air? Last time I heard him was in Richmond 8 or 9 years ago and he was starting to lose his edge back then. His show in the late '80s really didn't have a lot of debate...it was basically "I'm G. Gordon Liddy, I'm smarter than you, I like guns, I'm a total badass, and I have a huge schlong," but despite that it was still great. His best shows were when he'd bring Marion Barry on and the two of them would go walking around some of the war zones in Southeast DC. Despite their divergent political beliefs, the two were apparently close friends.

I never could quite figure just how much of his own bovine fertilizer Liddy believed...which, I guess, means that he was doing a good job!
