Per FoxNews: Pentagon questioning PO Box Number
FoxNews | 10 SEP 2004 | me

Posted on 09/10/2004 11:09:40 AM PDT by aft_lizard

James Rosen just reported that the Pentagon questions the use of a PO Box on a memo, and that the PO Box may never have been used by that unit saying it seems highly unlikely that they would have PO Box containing sequential numbers. Standard military practice has always been to place the actual physical address on the letter head.

I agree with you -- I doubt it was in the same zip as Ellington. I don't know about Ellington, but Wright-Patt had a zip code all its own 45433 -- still remember it after all these years.

I knew "PO Box 34567" was suspicious...

There was another thread around here yesterday that pointed out this PO box number at this Houston post office belongs to Ashland Chemical Company.

Did Rosen mention who he spoke with at Pentagon and what that person's official duties/title/expertise are? This practice is, IMO, critical, since every reason offered for why these docs are forged is going to come under attack.

I have personal mail I saved from those years too. The base post office knows who you are by PSC BOX number.

Further information.

Zip codes 77034 and 77234 are both located at the same USPS Station.
77234 is the unique zip assigned to their PO Boxes.
77034 is one of their street delivery zips.

It's probable that 77234 is an expansion zip to handle the box section
and that 77034 would have been correct several years ago for their box section.

I certainly wouldn't wish to be the renter of that PO Box today.
I'll bet they've had a visit or two from folks with big gold badges.

I am not ignoring you -- USA site freezes up when I get to page 6 and having trouble moving around FR -- still trying to look at what you linked.

Actually, there were old typewriters that lacked the numeral 1, and you had to use a lower case ell. But, IIRC, the high-end IBM's did not give you that kind of problem!

Aren't those the numbers that are the sign of the Devil? I guess not.

Wouldn't it be possible to see if such a P.O.Box number with sequential numbers actually existed for the ANG or whatever.

You are right -- it does say Post Office Box but you notice this is official and there is a 1st Ind to cut orders. That is why that memo makes no sense.

Still don't know how they got a post office box -- I found a reg that forbids P.O. Box for units unless you were overseas.

I have found addresses in old documents for Ellington AFB -- my husband was TDY there when Bush was also there and his unit helped him when he was a test engineer for test equipment on the plane that was before the AWACS. I have all kinds of paperwork from that testing from that squadron and no place was there a post office box. That is flat out weird.

Still checking.

I agree...while I don't subscribe to the "Karl Rove did it" excuse, it does appear that the forger almost wanted to get caught in their LIE...MUD

Exactly! Isn't it a felony to forge government documents? An investigation into the originator of the documents must be done and the criminal prosecuted. Failure to do so will just embolden these people to do a better job next time. Without punishment, there is no deterence!

They need to turn the docs over for carbon dating and to be checked for 'rag' content of the paper fiber. The 'rag' content in 1970's paper would be different than today's paper. Also to see if they match other paper out of the office of Col. Killian. Older docs are no longer white-white but off color or yellowed if not stored properly.

The problem with the Rove Hysteria is that, as is being accounted elsewhere, the documents surfaced when someone provided them to the Kerry Kampaign. They had them to review, CBS had them to review, and they either were too stupid to spot the fakes, or were complicit. Frankly, Rather would not play ball with any Republican campaign, certainly not if it hung his rep on the line.

"Are we being too literal, sir?"

"No, you idiot, we're following orders!"

My kids can quote verbatim entire scenes from that movie.

But my favorite's still Blazing Saddles.
