Unfortunately, the MSM/CBS will be able to weather this. But I think that it will just futher remind people that the Dems have no vision and no positive message.

Agreed. I don't think this will bring down the house of cards, but as long as it dominates the news it will suck life out of the Kerry campaign.

The family did not provide the documents.
The forgery was made up to look like it came from the Pentagon, but when Bush received his copies from CBS (Pentagon never sent him his whole file), he stated publicly it was the first time he ever saw it. Nobody answered where the document came from, but it is clear the Pentagon does not have it on microfiche (it is not from Bush's official record). If it did, then somebody in the Pentagon "created" it. I doubt it.

CBS then changed the direction to "this came from a personal file". If that is the case, then why does it have background noise as if it was printed from microfiche? It is was a first copy from an original document, it would have been clean.

Rather than kill the story, they plowed through it and didn't cover their tracks.

Nobody knows where the source document came from, nobody has seen it, CBS will not say if the document is a copy or an original.

Rush is laughing about the libDems whining that the Republicans did the documents and set them up.

My response would be: If the Pubs did it, what does that say about the Dems? It says that they are so vunerable that they can be hoaxed. Do we really want people who are so vunerable to being duped by a high-school level 'prank', running our Nation?

Listen to Sen. Harkin. He has been out whining and crying yesterday and today about the evils of GWB----as revealed in these documents. [Hey Senator, the docs are a hoax, a prank, a lie, fakes!!!! Senator, you have been hoodwinked, too, just like Dan Rather.]

I'm removing my tinfoil hat for this post. It's really hard to believe the kerry campaign is directly involved in this. If they had the memos for 6 weeks, how could they not have determined they were fakes? The timing of bill clinton's operation is suspect.

The reason couldn't determine that the docs were fakes is simple....They were fabricated by the DNC. The DNC has been alluding to this for months as have their talking heads like Susan Estrogen (?) who alluded to the 'scandal' as a response to the SBVT. IMO when historians look back they will conclude that the SBVT expose is what prompted the rats to perpetrate this fraud.

If CBS really believed that Rove or Republicans had something to do with the memos, they would have experts all over the memos. They stand by their source(s) because they KNOW IT WASN'T ROVE or anyone involved with Republicans. Dan knows the source is "reliable" (not Republican).

Take as a given that it is impossible to remove Kerry's name from any state ballot. What is the effect of that, should Kerry become unavailable?

Answer: the DEM party names a substitute -- which is moot if the party does not obtain a majority of the electoral college. But, it is legal, and the mechanisms are in place, to have the electors (already chosen, along with alternates) vote for a person for the Office of President when the electors meet in their respective state capitals in December.

I find it interesting this story broke in time for the new swiftboat ad to start airing. Regarless of true or false. This story is an obvious fire break.

The documents are fakes. Now lets move teh issue BACK to kerry's viet nam lies and incompetent senate record.

According to The Prowler's "Anatomy of a Forgery", the DNC got these documents "more than 6 weeks ago", and back then, Kerry wasn't doing so bad in the polls. The Swifties were making waves, but I don't think Kerry or the DNC had reached the panic stage yet. So it seems pretty clear, before that timeframe, someone had hatched this dirty trick, prepared the documents, and was scheming to carry it out.

I don't think Carville or Begala or any high profile spinning official would have the smarts to create these documents. Remember the secretary who worked for Mark Mckinnon? A mischief making nobody, who mailed Bush briefing papers to Gore Hqs. Someone like that is probably responsible for the fraudulent documents. The hoot is that CBS, all caution to the wind, went with the story.

They are asserting it's Karl Rove. Why would the Republicans do this? This is ridiculous. Kerry has been totally desperate since his convention, obviously :)

I think the rats underestimate Bush as well as the public. The rats assume the public will eat everything they are served by media. Well, I pray this story grows and the media suffers an awful blow. However, I'm not holding my breath. The media seems to get away with everything.

My fear, some Freeper please reassure me, can Kerry drop out at this late date and someone else run? IS it possible?

I think DeepWord will appear from within CBS to take Rather down. He has lots of enemies.

Terry The Turd is monstrously stupid if he's trying to suggest that Rove is the mastermind behind this. (1) Most swing people have no idea who Rove is and seeing finger-pointing at this shadowy figure is just weird. People not heavily involved in politics want to keep it simple and the simple of it is that the DNC handed them over to CBS. (2) Is Terry admitting that Rove would have been correct in assuming that the Kerry Camp is too stupid to check anonymous info over before handing it over? I mean how much more of a difinitive statement can you get saying, "We're idiots who have no right to run the country. After all we can't even see a forgery a moron could detect." (3) Making your own party look like sad-sack dupes is the quickest way to make fringe voters get the hell out of Dodge. Nobody ever wants to be associated with being stupid and with Terry saying they were dumb enough to buy into a really lame ploy...wow...

This is far more sinister than forgery. Think back to late last week... which prominent Democrat made headlines???? Now we all of a sudden have these forgeries show up that will nail Kerry in his coffin???

I smell the biggest rat of all in this, and its last name is Clinton.

This is exactly HOW Hillary Clinton will be the savior of the party. If Kerry's camp is behind this, watch the Dems jump ship, demand a new candidate and in walks Hillary.

In the event Kerry is dumped and Edwards stays in, they will lose anyhow... all of this sets Hillary up to be the savior of the Democrat party.

Where they found the papers may be the biggest question of all; another question I have is why I see no natation regarding carbons, copies for Killian's personal official files.

My wife was a typist for the Army and any document that she typed that had a carbon copy or a distribution list was footnoted by practice and regulation.

Maybe what I've seen here is somehow altered or my eyesight is too poor to identify such markings.

If the democrats wanted to change the subject off the Swiftboat controversy, they may have succeded.

Haha. This is great stuff. They ought to turn this into a soap for tv.

That loud boom you hear is a gigantic backfire.
