September 10, 2004 -- THE populist revolu tion against the so- called mainstream media continues. Yesterday, the citizen journalists who produce blogs on the Internet and their engaged readers engaged in the wholesale exposure of what appears to be a presidential-year dirty trick against George W. Bush. What the bloggers and their audiences did was call into profound question the authenticity of four documents proudly trumpeted by CBS News in a much-heralded investigative report on Wednesday night's edition of "60 Minutes" about the president's National Guard service in the early 1970s.These were "previously unseen documents . . . obtained by '60 Minutes,' " the network bragged Wednesday night on its Web site. Their author, supposedly, was Bush's squadron commander, Jerry Killian, who died 20 years ago.
They "include a memorandum from May 1972," CBS reports, "where Killian writes that Lt. Bush called him to talk about 'how he can get out of coming to drill from now through November.' " A document dated "18 August 1973" complains that Killian is being asked to "sugar coat" Bush's record. "I'm having trouble running interference and doing my job," the document says.
Liberals went wild with glee about the story, especially after the onslaught on John Kerry's Vietnam record by his fellow Swift-boat veterans.
Kevin Drum, the most talented of the left-wing bloggers, wrote: "This story is a perfect demonstration of the difference between the Swift-boat controversy and the National Guard controversy. Both are tales from long ago and both are related to Vietnam, but . . . in the National Guard case, practically every new piece of documentary evidence provides additional confirmation that the charges against Bush are true."
[snip]The Minneapolis lawyers who run powerlineblog.com were on the case early. Two of the blog's readers directed their attention to a note left on an Internet bulletin board on the freerepublic.com Web site, the 47th posting on the topic there. Post No. 47 pointed out that there was something off about these documents from the 1970s: The spacing between the letters and the words was proportional, and only a few IBM electric typewriters could achieve that effect back then.
CBS: WHERE DID YOU GET THE DOCUMENTS? THE PUBLIC DESERVES TO KNOW.
Well, Kevin, not quite. It appears that your boy's "proof" isn't worth the paper it was lasered onto, while the Swifties have made Kerry, with his own words, recant important segments of his Walter Mitty life in Vietnam.
Leave it to the Left to get it exactly and precisely backwards.
Damned if I'm not starting to believe that.[buffs nails on shirt]
How sad I am at the passing of the Old Media
I propose we dance on their freshly dug cybergrave!
A little dance music:
Weeeee are the Champions, mah Freeeeyahhhnds,
And WEEeeee'll keep on fighting til the end (Doo doot doo dooooooooo)
WEEEeeee are the Champions
WEEEEEEEEE are the Champions
NO time for LOOOSers
Cause WEEEEE are the Champions
(Booom)
Of the wooooorld...
Killian DID write those memos. He said so. He told Eleanor Roosevelt, who then relayed it to Hillary.
As this hideous CBS thing gets more air time,
I'm feeling increasingly sobered and reminded to pray more for FREEREPUBLIC.COM, JIM AND FAMILY.
It just doesn't make sense to me that given our increasing clout in the political arena in this critical election
--that the puppet masters would continue to ignore us. And these characters play for keeps and have incredible power to do so with.
Thankfully, God is God and has all in His control and is infinitely and supremely powerful.
But I believe we must be responsible to pray for FR and Jim and his family increasingly as the months race by toward even more end-times related dramatic events.
Not just the USA, but the world needs FR to be a potent beacon as long as possible.
Let us be diligent in our praying accordingly.
LUB,
Maybe this has been stated already but, James Rosen just said that FNC has been on the phone with Killian's son and would have something on that today. Stay tuned.
Judging by Bernie Goldberg's book "Bias," describing the modus operandi of CBS News, I suspect that they consulted dozens of experts until they found one who would say what they wanted.
In fact, the exponent on that number is itself a very big number!
While the exponent on the Collective IQ at DU is a very big number, it is also negative.

You rock! FR goes mainstream...ok...that would be bad, but you know what I mean!
Sorry. Clicked 'Reply' too fast.
Yet many continue to watch and believe the big media.
See #339. Thx P-Marlowe.
in all fairness i think it was a conclusion that immediately entered many people's heads. As some one who lived in Africa for many years Bin Laden was a household name from when the US embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam were bombed in August, 1998...
I am such a cynic, I know.
My email letter to John Podhoretz just now:
I just read your article "CBS'S BIG BLUNDER?" and wanted to thank you for writing it.
I am a member of FreeRepublic.com and have been for over 3 years. I appreciate your mentioning our little CyberWorld and home and for helping to expose CBS for the fraud that they are. Thanks !
Keep up the great work.
Sincerely,
